Weekend round up – January 26th

Josh Dickinson came 2nd in last Saturday’s North of England Cross Country Championships at Pontefract. Josh was always in the lead group but could not respond when Wallsend’s Sam Charlton put in a decisive burst up the long uphill section to the finish. With good support from Finnian Hutchinson in 8th, Archie Lawson in 46th and Toby Antcliff in 49th the club also took home the silver medals in the team event.

Led home by Joe O’Brien in 19th place the under 15 boys team came 13th. Maurice Calton-Seal 6th in the under 20s, Georgia Rothwell 14th in the under 20s, Lottie Langan 19th in the under 13s also achieved top 20 finishes in the junior races.

Charlotte Mason in 44th place and George Phillips in 148th place were the leading seniors from the club.

In indoor competitions, Lucy Hadaway won the Scottish senior long jump title. In Austria at the Vienna Classic Alex Botterill records a super fast 1.48.85 800m and Scott Lincoln threw over 19m for a season best. This means that Scott retains his position as no 1 UK shot putter whilst Lucy and Alex dominate the u20 rankings and are both placed 3rd in Senior lists – an encouraging start to 2019 for all three.

Tim Stratton, who was preparing for next week’s British Universities Cross Country Championships, ran a fast 15.57 to come first at York Parkrun whilst Sally Wade was the fastest female parkrunner from the club with 24.51 at Heslington. In all 12 of our members completed a parkrun at the weekend.
