Weekly report – w/e 2nd February

A quietish week from the point of view of club competitions as the British Universities Cross Country Championships in Edinburgh took centre stage for the sport’s cross country runners.

In the British Universities Cross Country Championships, Angus McMillan (Loughborough University) had a fine run in the B race as he placed 4th. If you’re wondering why Angus was only in the B team then consider how many international runners go to Loughborough University! James Tucker (Leeds University) also came 190th in the B race. Robbie Brown (Oxford University) ran a very good race to place 45th in the A race. University of York continued their improvement as their men’s team came a very credible 10th team whilst the University’s women’s team came 24th.

The Northern Athletics indoor championships for under 13s and under 15s took place at Sheffield with many of our athletes taking part. Louis How was rewarded for his hard training as he won the under 15 boys 800m in 2.06.92. Louis did it the hard way with an opening 400m of 58 seconds. Emily Maude in her first competition as an under 15 added 16 cms to her PB as she jumped 5.23m for a silver medal in the long jump. Alex Botterill meanwhile ran a superb indoor PB of 1.47.93 in Vienna which should set Alex up well for the upcoming Championships.

Charlotte Mason continued her good form as she took nearly a minute off her PB to run 35.24 in the Dewsbury 10k. This was good enough to earn 4th place in a strong field.

21 of our members did parkrun. Archie Lawson continued his comeback by coming 1st at Fountains Abbey in 17.13 whilst Gianluca Mastrolonardo came 2nd at Dalby Forest in 17.30. Sally Wade was the fastest female parkrunner from the club with 26.37 at Chester. Alfie Kirby was the quickest of two runners from the club in the York junior parkrun as he came 4th in 8.10.
