The club’s distance runners are also undertaking virtual races or running challenges to having a bit of fun and to maintain fitness and interest levels during the lockdown period. First was a virtual race over 3k or 5k. This proved very popular with 72 runners taking part with 25 runners doing both events. Angus McMillan was the fastest from the club with 8.38 for 3k and 14.48 for 5k whilst the fastest for the girls were Martha Calton-Seal with 10.14 for the 3k and Libby Brown running 19.34 for 5k.
Next up was a Marathon in 7 days challenge where runners completed the classic 26.22 miles distance across 7 days spread across as many runs as runners liked. There were many great stories of runners completing a marathon for the first time, running a PB and completing the distance as a family. James Tucker completed the distance quickest in 2 hours 57 minutes which gave him encouragement for his attempt at the re-arranged London Marathon later in the year. The Langans ran the marathon together with Paddy trying hard to keep up with Lottie for 24 miles before Lottie blitzed the last 3k to set the fastest female time of 3 hours 7 minutes. Lottie was flying whilst Paddy is now recovering having run 26 miles quicker than he normally does.
Sets of results for both virtual running events are attached below. We hope to organise more virtual running events over the coming weeks which are open to everyone to have a go. Please see our Virtual Running Facebook group for more details that can be found on the following link. Please remember to maintain social distancing at all times during all our virtual running events. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1852951494836827/?epa=SEARCH_BOX
