No real races recently of course. The York Virtual Run Group had a 10k (as a pair doing 5k each), which James Tucker “won” as a solo doing 2 fast 5ks in the week, 16.30 and 16.25.
Some of our juniors and their parents joined it as their long training run. Lucy Gilbertson found the best partner, family friend Helen Wilcock/Cross (no relation to Ian, but well known in the York Road League) and they were the fastest female pairing with Lucy running a good 20.58 on a hilly and windy course. Second female pair were our juniors Aimee and Rose Keefe, both running about 22 minutes in a fast training run from home. Isaac Stabler and Amy Kennedy were second mixed team to a strong adult pair, both running about 20 minutes. And Ollie Wright (19.22 in School Year 5) and his Dad were 3rd pair. Katarina Savkovic and Katie-anne Varga ran a 49 minute 10k between them, Fred and Max Moulton 51 minutes but slowed by some big falls in a muddy bit. And Year 5s Sophia Horsfall-Samb and Hannah Lovett ran a very good 27 minutes on the hilly and muddy / slippery course at Temple Newsam.
The previous weekend, some juniors did a cross country on the known route in the racecourse trees, with map circulated and spray paint on the main corners, run whenever you want during the weekend. Frances Hogg brough back the cross country form of her “younger” years with a very good run, to “beat” the emerging youngsters. Oscar Dawson was 2nd, and Nina Hopkins, Daniel Campbell and Charlie Blades joint 3rd. From previous events a handicap system was being trialled, and the joint winners were Olivia Whiting and Beatrice Prendergast, with all runners who had run “flat out” finishing within 30 seconds.
