Track and Field
City of York AC’s Upper team made the best possible start to their Youth Development League campaigns during the last week. All YDL competitions were cancelled in 2020 so these fixtures were a long time coming.
On Sunday 30th May the U17’s and U20’s competed in York against Gateshead Harriers and AC, Kingston Upon Hull AC, Leeds City AC and Spenborough & District AC. The fixture was on the first weekend of the half-term holiday which meant that many athletes were unavailable. However, CoYAC still managed to field a strong team and won quite comfortably.
There were some notable performances on the day: Ben Pearson 11.53 PB in the 100m; Charlie Wright 2:05.74 PB for 800m; Adam Tranter 5.67m PB in the Long Jump; Izzi O’Brien 4:49.17 PB in the 1500m and Hannah Ellam 10.59m PB in the Triple Jump
Joe O’Brien finally achieved his break through over 1500m at the BMC meeting in Manchester on Saturday as he ran 3.55.42 to take 6 seconds off his PB. Dan Cheeseman also ran a season’s best time of 3.48.65 in the 1500m whilst Alex Botterill ran 48.44 for the 400m.
Off Track Distance Races
Charlotte Mason followed up her 3000m PB on the track with another good performance on the road as she ran 16.51 in the Leeds University 5k. This impressive run not only was the fastest female time in the race but was also 6th overall. Mike Raynes (20.03) also ran.
Hannah Lovett was again first in the York Junior parkrun as she ran 7.57.
