On Sunday 4th July, 25 City of York AC athletes took part in the third match of the northern athletics league at the Princess Mary Stadium in Cleckheaton. York finished 2nd on points meaning that they are 2nd in the overall standings with one match to go. Some highlights of the day include:


A win for James Palmer in the men’s 400m B race in a time of 51.85 seconds, whilst Tom Wood came second in the A race with 50.86 seconds.


Charlotte Stamp won the women’s 400m with a personal best time of 56.21 seconds, whilst Gabi Burton won the B race in 59.92 seconds. Gabi Burton and Chrissie Dover also secured the win for both A and B 400m hurdles races.

Angus McMillan won the men’s 800m in a personal best time of 1:56.36. He also won the men’s 5000m with a time of 14:42.41.

The men and women’s 4×100 relay teams both finished second place in their respective races. The men also placed second in the 4×400 relay, whilst the women finished in first place.


In the field events, Isabel Lee gained a new pole vault personal best, with a jump of 2m 30. Daniel Fleming won both the men’s shot putt and discus, throwing 14.63m and 49.10m, respectively.

Maria Schofield won the women’s hammer competition with a throw of 52.47m. Oliver Wright won the men’s A string javelin with a throw of 55.81m whilst Luke Robinson won the B string with a season’s best throw of 55.03m.

The next match will take place on Sunday 1st of August at Sheffield Hallam University athletics stadium.

Off Track Distance Races

Dave Lancaster was the 3rd Vet 60 in the Harrogate 10k on Sunday in a time of 46.13 on a tough course in hot weather. Mike Raynes (44.35), Jayne Batt (65.22) and Helen Bowerman (66.12) also took part.
