Weekly Round up – w/e 22nd August

Track and Field

The club had a fantastic time at the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships that were held at York this weekend. We had a lot of members taking part with 24 athletes becoming county champions.

The event also couldn’t have taken place without the hard work of our officials so thank you to Paul Baxter, Ian and Elaine Wilcock, Neil Linaker, Paul Daynes, Giles Hadaway, Paul Goble, Jo McPherson and Greg How for ensuring that the event was successfully organised.

Well done to you all.

Joe O’Brien continues to run some superb times this year as he ran 14.14.65 for 5000m for Great Britain Under 18s at the Manchester International last Wednesday. This great run won his age group in the race. This is the third fastest time by any male athlete at the club over 5000m and was within 5 seconds of the long standing club record.

Off Track Distance Races

Dave Lancaster ran 25.39 in the Sessay 6k near Thirsk last Wednesday.

The latest 5k race on the York University cycle circuit took place last Friday. Steve Asquith ran 16.42, Ben Thompson 18.03, Ed Mezzetti 18.29, Ed Dunn 19.22 and Karen Wood 22.16.

James Tucker ran a PB for 5k of 15.19 on Saturday at Barrowford. James followed this up by running 16.01 to earn the bronze medal for 5000m at the Yorkshire Track and Field Championships.

Mike Raynes (44.25), Tom Stewart (61.01) and Helen Bowerman (63.34) all did the Escrick 10k on Sunday.

11 of our members did parkrun over the weekend. Becky Ramsey and Emma Ballantyne continued their comebacks after giving birth as they came 1st at Hull and Rothwell respectively in just over 20 minutes. Tim Stratton came 2nd at Easingwold in 17.30 and Emily Rycroft 3rd at Dalby Forest in 22.45. Ollie Wright (6.57) and Isaac Morris (7.20) were the first two finishers at the York Junior Parkrun.
