Off track distance races
The club had a fine day at the North of England Road Relay Championships that were held at Redcar on Saturday.
The club’s senior women’s team achieved a fine 5th place which is a club record at this event. Katy Wood fresh from a 5k race the night before ran 20.52 for the 6k opening leg to put the club in 4th place. Emma Ballantyne (24.10) and Isabel O’Brien (23.19) then ran well on the middle legs before Charlotte Mason ran a superb anchor leg of 20.56 to bring the club home in 5th place just 45 seconds away from a bronze medal position. The senior men came a creditable 16th place in the men’s competition which was enough to qualify for the National final with Angus McMillan’s 17.53 being the fastest time from the club for the 6k leg.
The club’s junior section fielded five teams in the junior races. Both the under 17 men’s and under 15 boy’s teams came 5th with Isaac Stabler running the fastest leg in the under 15 race as he covered the 3.1k course in a time of 10.07. The club fielded two teams in the under 13 girls event as the two teams came 7th and 12th whilst the under 13 boys team came 9th.
In other road running news Katy Wood (16.51) and Lotte Langan (17.09) came first and second in Friday nights 5k race at the York University cycle circuit. Lottie Langan’s time is the 3rd fastest in the national under 15 age group rankings for this year.
Seven of our members did parkrun this weekend with the highlight being Lottie Langan’s blisteringly quick 6.32 at the York junior event. This is the fastest time ever run on this course either male or female.
