Off track distance races
The club had 6 teams taking part in last Saturday’s National Cross Country Relays at Mansfield on a surprisingly dry course that suited middle distance track and shorter distance road runners rather than the mudlarks. All the times of our runners are given below but the first leg was slightly shorter in every race.
Senior Women – 15th Team. Another good performance from the women’s team following on from their good finishes in the road relays. Katy Wood ran another good opening leg to cover the 3k leg in 10.05 as she came in 13th. Emma Ballantyne then completed the 2nd leg in 11.46 as the club dropped back to 23rd before Charlotte Mason ran a strong anchor leg in 10.38 to bring the club home in 15th.
Senior Men – 31st Team. Angus McMillan ran another good opening leg to come 7th on that leg as he covered the 5k course in 15.25. Club reliables Alex Dickinson (17.06), James Tucker (17.36) and Tim Stratton (17.14) all ran well as the club finished one place higher than it did 2 years ago. Mark Cage (18.09) and Mike Raynes (22.02) ran in an incomplete B team.
Under 15 Girls – 56th Team. A good performance from a team that was missing all the runners who took the silver medals in the Northern Cross Country Relays at Sheffield two weeks ago. Kaitlin Keens (8.26), Katie-Ann Varga (8.58) and Ellie Johnson (8.23) made up the team in the 2k per leg event.
Under 15 Boys – Incomplete. William Keens ran the first 2k leg in 6.58.
Under 13 Girls – This age group was the only one where the team fielded two teams. Confusion at the first changeover also cost the B team several places. The A team came 19th and the B Team 48th in the 2k per leg event with Lucy Gilbertson (7.43), Isabel Madden (8.18) Annabelle Coxon (8.43) running for the A team with Aimee Keefe, Nina Hopkins and Emma Hutton running for the B team.
Under 13 Boys – 24th Team. Daniel Campbell ran well to come 4th on the 1st leg as he covered the 2k leg in 6.59. Conal Cairns (7.43) and Elliott Moon (8.50) ran the other two legs.
Anna Cuthbertson running her first race of the year completed the Guy Fawkes 10 mile race near Ripley in 1.28.15.
The club had 12 runners at this week’s parkruns with the club’s women dominating York’s two largest parkruns at Heslington and the Knavesmire. At Heslington The Robertson-Dover’s took the first 3 places as Jessica came 1st in 20.52, younger sister Sophie came 2nd in 21.19 and mum Chrissie continued her comeback from injury in 3rd with 21.33. On the Knavesmire Alison Deane ran her first parkrun in 20.50 to come 1st with Angharad Pryce coming 3rd in 21.18. Louis How was the fastest male parkruner from the club with 18.51 at the Knavesmire.
