Weekly round up – w/e 14th November

Off track distance races

23 juniors went to a very good PECO Cross Country League race at South Leeds. Despite the “Industrial Estate” approach there is a very nice grass and woodland course beyond the stadium, and the weather and ground conditions were very good for running. While many of our stronger juniors were resting after recent races, it was a great opportunity for our younger and recently joined runners to gain race experience. And for those who did the relays on short and frantically fast courses, this was a contrast of a long race with more thought and pace judgement needed in the mass start of over 140 in each race.

In the Primary Age race, we provided both winners in Ollie Wright and Hannah Lovett, with James Bastow 9th, and Sophia Horsfall-Samb 6th girl and Brodie Barrow 13th girl in a field of 160.

In the Secondary Age race, Lottie Langan had an excellent run to sit back off the pack of leading boys who were going a fast pace, and push through in the final stages to finish second overall. Amy Kennedy also had a great run to finish second girl, also Isaac Bastow 6th overall, Katarina Savkovic springing back after only a few days out of covid isolation to be 7th girl. Nina Hopkins was 2nd Under 13 Girl. Great credit to the many newer runners who entered, and ran very well in their first / early race. And we had 3 of our hurdler / jumpers taking in a cross country race.

Triathlete Sam Dickinson again showed that he was just as proficient at cross country as the three disciplined sport as he came 4th in yesterday’s British Cross Challenge event at Milton Keynes. Angus McMillan also ran well to be just 9 seconds behind in 7th place. Izzi O’Brien (29th) and Charlie Wright (65th) both ran in the combined under 17 and 20 races.

Ed Mezzetti (10th) and Emily Hand (18th) were the first runners from the club in Sunday’s Dalby Dash 10k with Dave Lancaster being 2nd in the Vet 60 age group. Tony George, James Richardson, Annie George and Helen Bowerman also ran.

James Tucker, Tim Stratton, Archie Lawson and Angharad Pryce all ran in the Braids Hill race in Edinburgh but I don’t have the results for this race.

The club had 16 runners doing parkruns on Saturday. The Roberston-Dovers couldn’t quite manage to fill the top 3 places at Heslington this week as Jessica came 1st in 20-03, Chrissie 3rd in 20.56 and Sophie 4th in 21.11 with Zara Meaby gate crashing their dominance of the podium to come 2nd in 20.30. Kaitlin Keens (22.20) and Martha Sigsworth (22.25) filled the first 2 places at Easingwold with Alison Deane coming 2nd on the Knavesmire with 20.52. The fastest male parkrunner from the club this week was Andy Richardson with 19.41 on the Knavesmire.
