Off Track Distance Races

With 3 Championship races this month, most of our regular racers had a rest weekend. But 19 newer juniors took part in the PECO race at West Park, Leeds, with some of them having their first run for the club. (And others disappointed to miss it through covid) Conditions were good for cross country, and a pleasant and suitably challenging course without being too demanding for new runners.

The Primary Age race had 134 runners, with Ollie Wright being a convincing winner and James Bastow 12th. In the Girls, Hannah Lovett was 3rd, Sophia Horsfall-Samb 6th, and Brodie Barrow 11th.

The Secondary Age race had 107 finishers, with Loic Clegg our only boy in a good 13th place and 3rd Under 13.   Amy Kennedy was a convincing winner in the girls event, with many of our newer / younger girls having good runs. Nina Hopkins was 10th girl, 4th Under 13, then Eliza Loftus in 17th in her first club race. Emily Rycroft, Grace Stewart, Anna Proctor and Alice Gilday were close together in the 20s, with Grace and Alice both having their first run for the club.

Dave Paver also made a welcome return to racing by coming 406th in the senior men’s race.

There were 15 runners from the club doing parkrun this weekend. William Keens again won at Easingwold in 17.41 whilst Martha Sigsworth came first at Knaresborough in 23.38. Daniel Campbell was an easy winner of the York Junior Parkrun in 6.51.
