Track and Field
In the Northern U15/U13 Indoor Championships at Sheffield, Ollie Wright had an amazing breakthrough to finish 2nd in the 800m, running 2m 19.99 while still at primary school age. Olivia Tweddle finished 3rd in the hurdles. Others to reach the final were Emma Hutton (who “won” the 200 final but was disqualified for a foot out of her lane) and Josh Carney and Ollie Wright in the 200.
Well done to all who went to experience a higher level of competition.
Off track distance races
28 club members ran for North Yorkshire In the Inter County Schools match at a very windy Middlesbrough. Aimee Keefe finished an outstanding 2nd out of 66 runners from 5 counties. Top 20 placings also for William Keens 7th, Josh Sandwell 9th, Daniel Campbell 18th in the Junior Boys. Tommy Shaw 5th, Luca Mastrolonardo 6th in the Senior Boys, and Izzy O’Brien 8th in the Senior Girls.
In the Humberside Schools Championships, Jessica Robertson-Dover was 2nd in the Inters, Sophie Robertson-Dover won the Juniors, and Holly Miller was 6th in the Year 7.
Angus McMillan continued his fine winter as he came 13th in the BUCS Cross Country Championships that were held at Greenford near London on Saturday. Martha Calton-Seal came 26th in the women’s B Race.
The NYSD at Richmond on Sunday was even windier, colder, with occasional hail showers on a moorland course above the town. Leading to the uphill finish into the strong wind. An achievement to get round, but all battled hard and finished in good spirit. In the Under 11s, Hannah Lovett was 6th and Brodie Barrow 12th. Under 13s Bethany Ellerker was 10th, and in the Under 15s Eliza Loftus was 4th, Liv Hardy 7th, Lucy Brown 10th.
In the Scunthorpe Cross Country, Katie-Ann Varga finished 2nd in the Under 15 race.
James Tucker and Mark Cage both took more than half a minute off their 10k road PBs as they ran 32.22 and 34.23 respectively. James came 3rd at the Norfolk Gazelles Valentines 10k whilst Mark ran at Dewsbury. Mike Raynes also ran 41.26 at Dewsbury whilst Dave Lancaster ran 46.04 at Blackburn.
The club had 11 runners doing parkrun on Saturday. Jessica Roberson-Dover came first at Heslington in 20.48 ahead of mum Chrissie who was second. Wesley Possible was the fastest male parkrunner from the club with 19.28 on the Knavesmire.
