Weekly Round up – w/e 13th February

Track and Field

A small group competed in the England Athletics Age Group Indoor at Sheffield. A very busy and high standard event.

Our best result was Olivia Tweddle who reached the semi final of the hurdles and was 13th of the 35 competitors.

Rosie Hickling in hurdles and Freya Vidal in the 60m also qualified to the semi final. Well done to all who took on this high level event, Frances Hogg, Isabel Dalton, Ben Pearson, Eden Petrie

Off track distance races

With no club or schools races taking place this weekend we had a bigger than normal turnout at parkrun with 20 of our members completing one. We had 10 seniors and 10 juniors completing the 5k events with five of our members achieving a coveted first place.

Lottie Langan achieved the rare feat of a female runner crossing the line in first place overall as he came first at Dalby Forest in 18.05 narrowly ahead another youngster Ben Guthrie. Hannah Lovett again came first at New Earswick as she was accompanied round by her dad. At Heslington Jessica Robertson-Dover achieved a big personal best of 19.16 as she came second.

At York Tommy Shaw took the win in 16.14, 4 seconds ahead of James Tucker as part of a 30 minutes tempo effort. Tommy won the game of stone, paper scissors from James to take the win! Mark Cage came first at Goole in 17.16 whilst William Keens added to his growing collection of wins at Easingwold in 17.59.

It was good to see so many of our runners doing parkrun but some of our members are not listed as ‘City of York AC’ as their club in the results which is a shame because runners doing well at parkrun are a good advert for the club. Please can you update your profile on parkrun so that you appear as ‘City of York AC’ in the results because unlike power of 10 the club name doesn’t update automatically on parkrun’s results system when you join or change clubs. If you want to know how to do this then please contact Mike Raynes.
