Weekly Round up – w/e 13th March

A very busy weekend with lots of cross country racing going on and the indoor combined events championships taking place.

Track and Field

4 athletes competed in the England Athletics Combined Events Championship at Sheffield, which attracts a very good standard being the main event in Britain for Combined Eventers in winter.

Frances Hogg finished a fantastic 4th in the U17 Girls Pentathlon, with an all round consistent performance. Grace Gannon was 21th of the 35 in this event, with pbs in hurdles and long jump and all round consistent results.

In the Under 15 Girls pentathlon Olivia Tweddle was 17th of the 35, in her first ever pentathlon. She was 4th in the hurdles with a personal best, and also had bests in shot and long jump.

In the Under 17 Men Heptathlon, Isaac Henson finished 15th of 25. He set a new club record (indoors or out) in the Pole Vault, 3.33m, beating the previous set in 1998. Isaac has only been vaulting for 3 months, and has to go to Leeds to train for it in winter. He has worked hard at it.

On Saturday the Yorkshire Veteran Cross Country Championships took place on a hilly course in Sheffield. Dave Lancaster took the silver medal in the Vet 65 category on his 65th birthday. In the Vet 40 age group Ed Mezzetti came 12th and Allan Scott, in his first race for the club, came 21st. Peter Hanson in a return to racing after 2 years came 16th in the Vet 55 category one place ahead of Therese Jansson who was 4th Vet 35. Steve Wright, another debutant for the club, came 7th in the Vet 60 age group.

Six teams went to the PECO Relays at Leeds on Sunday, coming away with 3 wins (lot of Easter eggs), 2 second places and a third in their age category

Wins for the Under 11 Boys of Ollie Wright, Leo Forsdyke, and James Bastow. And Under 11 Girls of Hannah Lovett, Brodie Barrow, Sophia Horsfall-Samb.

The Year 8 Girls team of Isobel Madden, Kate Setchell, Lucy Gilbertson were first girls overall, beating the older Harrogate team which included 2 runners for North Yorkshire in the English Schools next week.

Second place in the Under 13 Boys, and a very good 4th overall, for Edward Millgate, Loic Clegg, Conal Cairns. And in the U13G for the Year 7 Girls team of Aimee Keefe, Nina Hopkins, Emily Rycroft who were third girls team overall.

The Under 15 Girls team are newer to the club, and gave a very good account to finish third in their age group for Eliza Loftus, Lydia Scott, Lucy Brown.

James Tucker broke 15 minutes for 5k for the first time as he ran 14.56 at Barrowfield. Mark Cage ran a PB of 16.13 at the same event.

Not surprisingly with all the other races going on the club had far fewer runners than normal at parkrun. William (17.37) and Kaitlin Keens (21.26) made it a family double as they both came 1st at Easingwold.
