The club came first by just over 100 points in the first meeting of the Northern Athletics Senior League at York on Saturday.
In an early season tester at the BMC meeting at Leeds on the Monday, Tommy Shaw ran 8.57.28 for the 3000m whilst Katy Wood ran 9.36.77 for the same distance. Louis How ran 2.09.11 for the 800m.
Off Track Distance Races
The club had 23 runners taking part in the popular York 10k Road Race League that returned after a three year absence on Tuesday night at Pocklington. Both the club’s teams came 5th in the team events.
Charlotte Mason, who won the title in 2019, won the women’s race as she took the lead at around the 3k mark to win in 36.31, 28 seconds ahead of Knavesmire’s Josie Rawes. Chrissie Dover was 11th and 5th Vet 35 in 42.14 with Angharad Pryce (25th in 45.21) and Anna Cuthbertson (72nd in 51.33) making up the team.
James Tucker led home the men’s team in 4th place with 32.57. Alex Dickinson (12th in 35.20) and Adam Bateman (23rd in 36.26) were the next runners from the club across the line. Steve Asquith (40th in 37.58), Ben Thompson (55th in 38.44) and Nick Elliott (70th in 39.47) were the other team scorers. Steve Wright was first vet 60 in 40.43 with Dave Lancaster (43.36) being 4th in this age group.
The next race in the League is at Tadcaster on Tuesday May 10th.
Sunny weather on Saturday morning meant that the club had 20 runners taking part in parkrun. Five of our juniors won their parkruns despite running against senior athletes. There was another family double at Easingwold as William (17.56) and Kaitlin (20.24) Keens both came first. Gianluca Mastrolonardo won on the Knavesmire in 16.04 with Jessica Robertson-Dover (18.49) winning at Heslington and Katrina Savkovic winning at New Earswick in 21.39. Parkrun podiums were also achieved by Steve Asquith (17.49) 2nd at Heslington, Wesley Possible (21.02) 2nd in Finland, Alana Reveley (23.39) 3rd at Selby and Mike Raynes (23.17) 3rd at Hamsterley Forest near Durham.
