Off Track Distance Races

The club’s senior men’s team became Northern champions as they won the North of England Cross Country Relays on Saturday at Sheffield’s Graves Park. Angus McMillan put the club in the lead at the end of the first leg as he covered the 2 mile course in 9.55, a time that was the fastest leg of the day. James Tucker then extended the lead on the 2nd leg as he ran 10.27. 800m runner Alex Botterill again stepped up in distance as he took the club further ahead with a time of 10.18 on the 3rd leg. This left Great Britain triathlete Sam Dickinson with a lead of nearly a minute going into the last leg. Sam left nothing to chance as he ran the 3rd fastest time of the day (10.04) to bring the club home just over a minute ahead of the rest of the field. The club’s senior women’s team came a creditable 22nd in the women’s race.

The club took one medal in the junior races as the Under 17 women’s team came 3rd in the first race of the day. Jessica Robertson-Dover bought the club home in 3rd place on the 1st leg as she covered the 2.3k leg in 8.27. Katarina Savkovic dropped one place on the 2nd leg as she ran 9.08 which left Lottie Langan to bring the club home in the bronze medal position with a time of 8.26. The other three junior teams from the club all achieved top ten finishes as the Under 15 girls and boys teams came 6th and 9th respectively with the under 13 girls coming 5th.

Katy Wood and Charlotte Mason ran the fastest times ever by City of York runners as they ran Sunday’s Leeds Abbey Dash 10k in 34.18 and 35.02 respectively in a race won by international athlete Jess Judd. There were also personal best times by Mark Bolland-Cage (33.30) and Allan Scott (38.06) with Dave Lancaster (41.37) and Karen Wood (45.13) also running. Lydia Scott came 3rd in the 2k Junior Abbey Dash in 8.25.

The club had two medalists in Friday nights Yorkshire Veteran 5k championships as Dave Lancaster came 1st in the V65 age group with a time of 20.07. Steve Asquith came 2nd in the V40 category with 17.39 with Ed Mezzetti just missing out on a medal by coming 4th V40 with 18.18.

15 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday. The Keens siblings again both came 2nd at Easingwold as William ran 17.41 and Kaitlin 21.20. Holly Moss (19.58) came 2nd and Alison Deane (20.27) came 3rd on the Knavesmire.
