Off Track Distance Races

The National Cross Country Relays took place yesterday at the traditional venue of Mansfield. The club had a good day as we fielded 11 teams in total.

The senior women came 23rd after a dramatic tussle with local rivals Knavesmire Harriers. There was never more than 100 metres between the teams with Charlotte Mason passing her counterpart from Knavesmire with just 20 metres of the last leg remaining following a determined finish over the last 400 metres. The senior women’s B team came 87th. The senior men’s team finished one better than the women as they came 22nd. Angus McMillan again gave the club a superb start as he came 3rd on the first leg with Alex Botterill, James Tucker and Tim Stratton completing the team.

The club’s junior teams performed consistently with all the A teams coming between 11th and 21st. The under 17 women achieved the best result of the day to come 11th. Under 15 teams fielded two teams for both genders as the two boys teams came 19th and 59th with the girls coming 21st and 55th. The under 13 girls teams went one better as they fielded three teams that came 14th, 48th and 54th.

Three runners from the club took part in the Guy Fawkes 10 mile race at Ripley with Nick Elliott running 70.22, Andy Richardson 73.29 and Wesley Possible 78.17.

Just 8 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday with the fastest times being recorded by Isaac Bastow (17.08) and Charlotte Stamp (23.48). I hope Charlotte enjoyed seeing a different part of the sport from 400 metre running!
