Weekly Round up – w/e 1st January

Track and Field

The track and field side of the sport allowed its members to have a break over the Christmas and New Year period….unlike the road and cross country side of the sport which continues to cram races into the calendar at every opportunity!

Off Track Distance Races

Nigel Taylor ran 63.51 in the Chevin Chase race on Boxing Day.

The popular Ripon Jolly Holly 10k took place on Tuesday 27th December at Ripon. Charlotte Mason was the first female runner in 39.35 with Amy Kennedy, in her first ever 10k race, being the 9th female finisher in 45.12. Julie Mastrolonardo was the first female vet 55 runner in 48.49 with Nick Elliott (45.43), Wesley Possible (52.10) and Dave Paver (64.12) also running. On the same day Tim Stratton came 4th in the 3 lap Guisborough Woods Fell race.

Once again there was a double header of parkrun at the weekend. Chrissie Dover came closest to first places on both days as she came 2nd at Heslington on Saturday with 20.44 and 1st at Dalby Forest on the following day with 20.46. William Keens came 2nd on both days at Easingwold but had the consolation of setting a parkrun PB on the Sunday with 17.28. Kaitlin Keens came 1st at Easingwold on the Sunday with 21.22. Of the runners who only ran on Saturday, Isabel Madden and Juliet Horne ran the same time at Selby with 20.56 as they came 2nd and 3rd whilst Daniel Kennedy came 3rd at Temple Newsam in 21.25. Mark Bolland-Cage thought he had broken the 30-34 year old record at Heslington with 16.02 but was disappointed to find out that the 3rd placed runner was also in his age group so took the new record!
