Weekly Round up – w/e 5th March

Although there were no major Championships this weekend, the club had 54 juniors out competing in various events.

24 represented North Yorkshire in the North East Sportshall Athletics event at Middlesbrough. A great event with a lot of fast running (and well done to those who took on the very tiring longer runs) and jumps events and shot put. Caleb Tierney-Coates, Harry Jobson, Jack Pallister, Olivia Tweddle, Sophie Williams, Zoe Bind, Lily Johnson, Beth Takieddine, Carys Francis, Sophia Horsfall-Samb, Emma Hutton, Talia Northcott, Lily Craske are all in North Yorkshire teams who won and qualified for the National Final. And special award to the B team relay with Hannah Mapplebeck, Evelyn Coulson, Poppy Cooper who won and beat the A teams from all the counties.

21 Juniors ran in the last of the PECO cross countries at Roundhay Park, a good course with the big climb up the famous ‘Hill 60’ from the cricket field to Soldiers Field. William Keens was 3rd, Daniel Campbell 5th, James Bastow was 4th in the Under 13s, and Leo Forsdyke 7th. For the girls, Amy Kennedy was 2nd, Isobel Madden 4th, Kaitlin Keens 6th, Kate Setchell 9th, Lydia Scott 14th. Hannah Lovett was 2nd Under 13.

In the PECO League season final standings, Hannah Lovett won the Under 13 Girls. In the U13 Boys James Bastow was 4th and Leo Forsdyke 8th. In the older girls – Kaitlin Keens was 4th, Lydia Scott 7th, Alana Reveley 9th. William Keens was 2nd in the older boys series. In all, we had 35 juniors running in the PECO this winter, well done for being committed and getting out racing.

Another group of 9 went to the NYSD at Whitby, a great course with a lot of variety, and great running conditions on the day. Included the steep hillside climb and other hills. In the Under 13 Girls, Nina Hopkins was 3rd and Emily Rycroft 4th, and with Isla Watson and Emily Lawrence they won the team. The Under 15 Boys had Miles Watson, William Gale, Wilson Moisey-Smith in 7th, 8th, 9th and they also won the team.

Dave Lancaster was 1st Vet 65 and 18th overall in the undulating Lightwater Valley 10k in a time of 42.51.

13 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday. William Keens completed the first part of a weekend double header as he won at Easingwold in 17.18. Chrissie Dover came 1st at Heslington in 21.13. Sprinter Scott Michael got his first ever parkrun podium by coming 3rd at Spennymoor in 20.59 with Alana Reveley also coming 3rd at Goole in 23.04.
