Scott Lincoln threw 20.73m to come 4th in the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal.
Esme Pounder took part in the England Athletics U17 Indoor Pentathlon at the EIS in Sheffield on Saturday. Esme finished 18th out of 32 girls with the following results: 60m hurdles 9.48, High Jump 1.47m, Shot 10.17m, Long Jump 4.99m, 800m 2:35.88 for a total score of 3119 points. This was a welcome return to combined events action for Esme and there is lots more to come this season.
Meanwhile, Craig Pounder travelled to Lee Valley in North London to take part in the British Masters Indoor Pentathlon. Craig won the gold medal with the following scores: 60m hurdles 9.52, Long Jump 5.19m, Shot 10.94m, High Jump 1.68m, 1000m 3:23.58 for a total score of 3399 points.
Road and Cross Country Running
There was a wide variety of road and cross country racing over the weekend.
10 of our runners took part in the Inter Counties cross country Championships at Loughborough on Saturday. Angus McMillan running his first race since the Yorkshire Championships in January came a creditable 11th in the senior men’s race. In the junior races the club had four runners in Yorkshire’s Under 13 girls team as Aimee Keefe came 78th, Nina Hopkins 83rd, Hannah Lovett 189th and Emily Rycroft 195th. In the other junior races Isaac Stabler came 39th in the under 15 boys race and Beau Jamieson-Wannell 134th in the under 17 men’s event. Running for Humberside Chrissie Dover came 115th in the senior women’s race, Jessica Robertson-Dover 91st in the under 17 women’s event and Sophie Robertson-Dover 117th in the under 15 girl’s race.
Five runners from the club took part in the Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships on Sunday on an excellent course at Beverley Westwood that contained a good mixture of technical muddy sections, hills and fast running. Dave Lancaster was the 2nd Vet65 for the second year running with Therese Jansson again being 4th Vet 35 again for the 2nd year running. Steve Wright was 8th Vet60, Peter Hanson 10th Vet55 and Mike Raynes 11th Vet45.
Adam Bateman made his first competitive appearance of the year as he ran 15.48 for 3rd place at the latest race in the York University 5k series. 2nd claim member James Wisby came 7th in 16.03 as he ran another PB. Daniel Campbell (17.12) and Miles Watson (18.00) were the first two juniors with Steve Asquith (18.13) also running.
11 runners from the club took part in parkrun over the weekend. Alana Reveley came 3rd at Selby in 24.10 with James Hodgkinson also coming 3rd at the York Junior parkrun in 9.05. Allan Scott was the fastest male parkrunner from the club as he ran 18.55 at Heslington.
Disability Athletics
Dan Onyett was invited to take part in his first indoor para athletics championships on Sunday in Sheffield. Dan achieved a PB in shot and registered his first 60 metre time in an exciting final.
