Weekly Round up – w/e 16th April

Track and Field

The outdoor track meetings started with a choice of local open meetings to get people into track & field competition.

A smallish, pleasant meeting at Wakefield on Saturday, with medals, and nice conditions. And many of ours made a good start to the season.

The first 2 races of the summer brought a 1, 2, 4 in the Under 13 hurdles to Sophia Horsfall-Samb, Juliette Callau, Matilda Baxter, followed by 1, 2, 3 in the Under 15 hurdles to Talia Northcott, Carys Francis, Sophie Williams. And good times for this stage of the season – none of them will have run over 8 hurdles since September.

The Under 15 went on to a 1,2,3 in the long jump (from a good entry of 15) with Talia, Tabitha Speight, Sophie. While Carys Francis won the shot in a pb of 9.48. And with the Under 13, Sophia Horsfall-Samb added 2nd in the shot and 3rd in the 200. Isabel Madden also came 3rd in the mile race.

Our 2 Under 13 boys had a good day, Ben Falkingham and Bobby Speight finishing 1st and 2nd in the long jump. Then Bobby added 2nd in the 100m, and Ben 3rd in the Mile. Our only Under 15 Greg Horne had his first event for the club with good runs in the 100 and 200.

Under 17 Adam Pearson opened his season with pbs and wins in the 100 (11.87), 200 (24.08) and long jump. Cole McAndrew also won the mile race.

On to Middlesbrough on Sunday. Rosie Hickling had a very good run in her first race over Senior 100 hurdles (which is a big difference from U17 hurdles) to run 15.63 which is not far away from English Schools entry.

It is hard to get positions as the results are in mixed heats, but good results are noticed for Ryan Mosey with 23.32 in the 200, Megan Ledden with pbs in the 100 and 200, Annabel Fulford a big pb in the 200 with 27.07 and a competitive heat win, and Juliette Macquin-Jones with a win in the U13 long jump and good pb of 29.76 in the 200.

At Warrington on Saturday Jess Robertson-Dover ran a PB in the 1500m steeplechase as she ran 5.10 to achieve the English Schools qualifying time.
