Track and Field

Northern T&F League – East Premier Match 1 – York

Thanks to Ruth Hirst for the report.

We welcomed everyone for the first match of the Northern Track & Field League at our home track on Saturday 20th May. It was a beautiful sunny day with a good turnout for the team. Thanks to all who made the day a success from athletes to officials as well as those behind the scenes and in the office.

We started the day off well with a new (V55+) club record in the first field event of the day for Sue Richardson in the Long Jump with 3.69m. She continued her success following with 2 more (V55+) club records in the High Jump (1.20m) and Shot (6.50m). Another club record came from Julie Mastrolonardo (V55+) 3000m in a time of 12:09.47 in her first appearance for the club in this league.

Personal bests continued throughout day for:

Gianluca Mastrolonardo – 1500m (3:59.93), Mark Bolland-Cage – 5000m (15:54.32), Alan Brown – 5000m (17:53.66), Charlie Wright – 3000mS/C (10:40.81), Fabian Vidal – Long Jump (5.74m) & Triple Jump (12.05m), Tom Wood – Triple Jump (12.06m), Craig Pounder – Hammer (23.03m), Louisa Birch – 100m (12.89), Grace Hemmings – 100m (13.50) & Long Jump (5.01m), Megan Ledden – 400m (58.22), Sonya Chechik – 400m (61.58) & 400mH (65.53) and Kathryn Clague – Shot 4kg (10.14m) & Javelin 35.17m.

Lots of athletes pulled together to help fill spaces in events we were weak. This type of attitude does not go unnoticed, so thank you once again.

The team were so supportive of each other throughout the day cheering each other on and giving encouragement when it was needed. I am so proud to be a part of this team.

Match 2 is held at Sheffield on 18th June 2023.

Katy Wood ran the fastest ever time by a female athlete from the club over 10k either on the road or track as she ran 33.47.14 in the Highgate 10000m meeting in London. Katy finished 17th in the British Championships that were held within this race.

Tommy Shaw ran a PB by over 4 seconds as he ran 3.51.13 in the 1500m at the Loughborough International meeting.
