YDL League – Lower Age Group
Last weekend saw the second Junior YDL meeting at the Costello Stadium in Hull.
Yet again the weather was fantastic all day and more importantly, I’m delighted to report that our junior athletes were brilliant too.
All the hard work and training our juniors have put in is clearly working; we saw incredibly impressive high scoring track and field efforts all day long. The teamwork was great. Each and every one of our U13s and U15s put in an inspiring effort, and I must also mention the CoYAC supporters, who, with the athletes who weren’t busy with events, set up camp to provide an almost festival like atmosphere with audible waves of positivity, willing our competitors to achieve the best times, distances and heights.
From the first event the CoYAC team took the lead in the standings and with outstanding performances throughout the day the lead just extended, until by the close of play, our Juniors had accrued 544 points, 95 points clear of Harrogate Harriers in second.
It was a fantastic day, and I can’t wait for next at South Leeds Stadium on Saturday July the 8th.
Please note the last YDL is only 2 weeks later on Saturday the 22nd July.
Northern Senior and Under 20 Championships, Manchester
The club had 2 Northern Champions and a few other medals in the Northern Championships. Chelsea Walker won the 100 hurdles and the 400 hurdles – the latter in her second fastest time ever, and 10th on the UK list this year. And Tommy Shaw continued his good form with a well-judged win in the Under 20 1500m. There were second places for Alice Linaker (high jump), Oliver Wright (Javelin), Maya Lindridge (U20 Javelin), Frances Hogg (U20 Shot). And 3rd for Mark Bolland-Cage in the steeplechase, and Jessica Robertson Dover in the U20 steeplechase.
Road Running
Dave Lancaster was the 1st V65 in the Yorkshire Veteran 5 miles championships that were held within the Bronte 5 that was held at Howarth last Thursday.
The club had 22 runners doing parkrun over the weekend. James Tucker came 1st on the Knavesmire in 15.36 with Adam Bateman making his long awaited parkrun debut coming 2nd in 16.24. There was another Keens family double first place at Easingwold as William ran 17.17 and Kaitlin 21.27. Josh Reid came 2nd in the York Junior parkrun in 8.06.
