Weekly Round up – w/e 9th July

Northern T&F League – East Premier Match 3 – Hull

Thank you to all who made the effort to come out for the third match that took place at Hull last weekend. It’s fair to say this was the weakest we’ve been all season in terms of number of athletes. However, this didn’t stop the team from pulling together to fill gaps and get as many points as possible throughout the day to secure 2^nd place at the end of the day. Many track athletes helped by filling in field events, I think some enjoyed switching their focus to an event unfamiliar to them.

We had PB’s from Lucas Stabler, 1500m (4:07.80), Louis How, Long Jump (5.02m) & Esme Pounder, Javelin (24.56m – 600g). There were also plenty of SB’s on both the track & in the field.

Match 4 will take place on Saturday 19^th August at Heringthorpe Stadium – Rotherham.

Road Racing

The final race in the York 10k Road Race League took place at Wistow near Selby last Tuesday. The very flat course just to the north of Selby usually produces good times with this year being no exception. Allan Scott led home another very depleted men’s team with a time of 38.34 as the men’s team came 8^th. Chrissie Dover was the leading female runner from the club as she came 6^th vet 35 and 11^th overall in a time of 40.35. In the veteran races Karen Wood was 1^st vet 55 in 45.31 with Dave Lancaster being 3^rd vet 60 in 42.12. In the overall series rankings Karen Wood was 1^st vet 55, Chrissie Dover 2^nd vet 35 and Dave Lancaster joint 2^nd vet 60. The men’s team came 7^th overall with the women not completing a team in any of the six races.

In the junior races at Eccup, just north of Leeds, Hannah Lovett was the 3^rd girl in the two miles race in 13.13 whilst James Hodgkinson was 25^th boy in the one mile race with 7.20.

Four of the club’s juniors achieved first places in this weekend’s parkruns. Ollie Wright got the first of what may prove to be many first places at parkrun as he won on the Knavesmire in 17.34. Another young un William Hardy was 2^nd in 17.35 at the same event. There was another Keens double first place at Easingwold as William ran 17.24 and Kaitlin 23.09 whilst Liv Hardy was 1^st at Heslington in 23.15. Gianluca Mastrolonardo might now to be too old to be classed as a young un but he cruised round to another win at Dalby in 16.06 with mum Julie coming 3^rd in 21.47. Charlotte Mason unusually came both 2^nd female and 2^nd overall at Mensola in Florence in 19.02. Josh Reid came 2^nd in the junior York parkrun in 8.23 with Bethany Ellerker being 3^rd female in 8.33.
