Weekly round up – w/e 17th December

Cross Country Running

We had another good turnout at the PECO Cross Country at West Park, Leeds. After frozen ground in the last league date, this was wet and muddy, and very tough going.

Lottie Langan won the senior race, on a tough 4.3 mile course, much longer than she does in an age group race. Sitting with the leading ladies for most of the race, she moved away in the last 300m despite it being very boggy and not easy for a change of pace.

In the secondary age race, times suggested it was longer than the advertised 2 miles, and very tough for the younger secondary years. William Keens and Daniel Kennedy were 9th and 10th (in the same time) and Wilson Moisey-Smith a good 28th of the 109 runners. Hannah Lovett was 5th girl (2nd Under 13), Lydia Scott 7th, and Imogen Brown 12th.

In the Primary Age 1 mile, James Hodgkinson in 16th and Nattida Chaibamrung 7th girl and 30th overall of the 163 runners had big improvements over their previous runs in the league.

A good effort by all who got round and coped with the tough conditions.

Road Running

Dave Lancaster was 2nd vet 65 in a time of 45.28 in the hilly Travellers 6 miles race that is held in Denby Dale

17 of our members did parkrun over the weekend. It is not often that you get two Great Britain internationals doing the same parkrun but that is what happened at Canterbury as Angus McMillan and Alex Millard both turned up fresh from their efforts in the previous week’s European Cross Country Championships. Angus was 1st in 16.23 with James Tucker being 2nd in 16.29 as they did a tempo effort on a tough course. Elsewhere there were 2nd places for James Bastow with 19.43 at Millom in the Lake District, Isabel Madden 2nd at Selby in 19.34 with Steve Wright coming 3rd at Temple Newsam in 20.31. Therese Jansson also broke her own Vet 35 club record with 20.29 on the Knavesmire. There were veteran age group wins for Jon Blake and Dave Lancaster with a junior age group win for Josh Reid.
