Weekly Round up – w/e 14th January

Indoor Track and Field

The English Institute of Sport in Sheffield was once again the venue for the Northern Indoor Championships on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January. City of York AC had 36 athletes taking part with plenty of success across the weekend. The highlights of the weekend were:

Gold medals:

SW 60m hurdles for Chelsea Walker with a time of 8.66 secs, U17W High Jump for Lucy Gilbertson with a PB jump of 1.56m and U17M Triple Jump for Ben Foulger with a big PB jump of 12.75m.

Silver medals:

U17M 400m for Rowan Whittaker with a time of 50.50secs breaking a 14 year-old club record in the process, SM 800m for Rob Shipley with a PB time of 1:54.30. Rob lost out on the gold medal by 1/100th of a second in a tight photofinish, Megan Ledden in the SW 800m with a time of 2:19.23 and Cole McAndrew in the U17M 1500m with a time of 4:14.05. There were also joint Silver medals for Abi Moss and Annabel Fulford in the U17W high jump with clearances of 1.45m.

Bronze medals:

Sophie Robertson-Dover in the U17W 800m with a PB time of 2:17.27, Lottie Langan in the U20W 3000m with a new PB time of 9:56.63 and Daniel Cluderay in the U17M Long Jump with a leap of 6.10m

Triple Jump: U17M Daniel Cluderay (11.84m). U17W Zoe Bind (10.68m)

Shot Putt: U20W Frances Hogg (9.80m), Grace Gannon (8.59m). U17W Zoe Bind (7.88m)

Congratulations to all athletes and their coaches for the performances over the course of 2 very long days of competition and also great to see John and Alison Moreland bringing their expertise to the officiating side of the championships.

Cross Country Running

The North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country Championships took place at Whitby on Saturday as a lot of our junior athletes tried to earn a coveted county vest at the prestigious English Schools Championships that take place in March. Lottie Langan won the senior girls race as the first part of a double header because she also ran in the Northern Indoor Championships on the Sunday. Aimee Keefe and Nina Hopkins came 2nd and 3rd in the Junior Girls race whilst Isaac Stabler came 3rd in the Intermediate Boy’s race.

In addition to our medallists, Amy Kennedy, Isobel Madden, Kate Setchell, Imogen Brown, Lucas Stabler had top 6 finishes to gain selection for the English Schools Cross Country in March. 

And selected for the North Yorkshire team for a County Match are Katarina Savkovic, Anna Proctor, Lydia Scott, Kaitlin Keens, Nancy Otterburn, Emily Rycroft, Kate Wilcock, Brodie Barrow, Isla Watson, Rosie Davies, Beau Jamieson-Wannell, Will Hardy, Miles Watson, William Keens, Sam Dickinson, James Bastow, Isaac Robson, Joseph Mapplebeck

Road Running

14 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. James Tucker won the York parkrun in a speedy 15.23 with Luca Parker making a rare appearance at parkrun to come 3rd in 15.52. Mike Raynes came 2nd at Snowden Fields near Peterborough in 21.11. There were veteran age group wins for Jon Blake and Therese Jansson and a junior age group win for Josh Reid. Brodie Barrow came 2nd in the York Junior parkrun in 8.41 with Noah Stipetic coming 3rd in 8.06.
