Cross Country Running
The club’s members took home three medals in the North of England Cross Country Championships as Lottie Langan won the under 17 women’s race, Angus McMillan came 2nd in the senior men’s race and the under 15 girls team took bronze in the team event.
Angus McMillan continued his great winter by placing 2nd in the senior men’s race. Angus couldn’t respond to fellow GB international Callum Johnson’s surge to the front on the 2nd lap of three but comfortably finished ahead of the third placed runner. The club’s senior women’s team were at full strength and came 6th in the team race. Katy Wood led the team home in 9th with Charlotte Mason, running her first cross country race of the winter, coming 20th. Chrissie Dover (54th) and Therese Jansson (98th) made up the team.
In the junior races Lottie Langan again unleashed what is becoming a trade mark sprint finish as she won the under 17 race by 10 seconds. The other highlight from the club was the excellent showing of the under 15 girls team who took bronze medals in the team race with Isobel Madden (19th), Kate Setchell (32nd), Lydia Scott (33rd) and Lucy Davey (36th) all packing well. In the other junior races there were good runs from Gianluca Mastrolonardo (14th), Jess Robertson-Dover (12th) and Lucy Gaskin (24th) in the under 20s, Charlie Fielding (25th), William Hardy (49th), Miles Watson (56th) and Sam Dickinson (76th) in the under 17s, Louis Richardson (54th) in the under 15s and James Bastow (22nd), Imogen Brown (30th) and Hannah Lovett (43rd) in the under 13s.
A group of 18 juniors ran in the PECO at South Leeds – a rare dry and mild day with nice underfoot conditions. In the Primary age, Noah Stipetic had a great run in his first cross country race to finish 5th of the 180 runners. James Hodgkinson was 23rd, and Harriet Brown 7th girl. In the secondary age, a few “reappeared” despite having run the Northern the previous day. 2 laps with a long gradual climb and a short very steep climb each lap. James Bastow was a fine 11th, and Wilson Moisey-Smith 22nd of the 120 runners. Lucy Davey had a really good run to be 2nd girl, with Nancy Otterburn 7th and Imogen Brown 9th also having good results. Well done to all for getting out to race.
