Track and Field
England Athletics held their annual U17 and U15 Indoor Combined Events Championships at EIS Sheffield at the weekend. Talia Northcott and Elliot Moon competed for City of York Athletic Club in the U15 girls and U15 boys categories.
Talia got off to a brilliant start winning the hurdles in a time (9.22) a fraction outside her personal best (9.20). She then moved onto the high jump and achieved a very solid jump of 1.50m which is just 3cm shy of her best. Shot was next with Talia a little down on her best. She achieved a throw of 9.35m with her previous best being 9.88m. Talia remained around 4th or 5th place throughout these events. Onto Long Jump where Talia had a great final jump of 5.09m (5cm shy of her best) to record the 4th best jump of the day. The final event of the day is the 800m and Talia went into that event in 3rd place, knowing that if she could stay ahead of the girl in 4th place, she would gain a medal. Talia ran her race brilliantly to smash her previous personal best by over 4 seconds to record a time of 2:34.20. Talia ran the 3rd fastest 800m time of the day and won her race. An indoor pentathlon score of 3198 points, a brilliant performance and a thoroughly deserved bronze medal in an England Championships.
Elliot had a very solid competition overall. Unfortunately in the first event of the day, Elliot stumbled off the third hurdle to record a time way outside his personal best. However, in his second event he came back with a bang and a personal best in the long jump of 5.06m. Elliot also threw a personal best of 7.86m in the shot in the third event before jumping 1.59m in the high jump (just 1cm outside his personal best). Elliot then ran a fantastic 2:23.84 in the 800m to finish with a score of 2069 points which is just outside his previous best.
Scott Lincoln won a silver medal in the European Throwing Cup that was held in Leiria Portugal as he threw 20.98m.
Outdoor track and field started on Saturday as Tommy Shaw ran 14.37.59 in the 5000m in the Birmingham University Winter Throws and Distance event.
