Indoor Track and Field
23 club athletes were in the North Yorkshire teams for the National Sportshall Athletics Final at Stoke. It is a very big event, and amazingly high standard in the leading athletes there. Ours, and the whole North Yorkshire team, competed really well, and won 4 medals, our highest tally for many years.
Fleur Farmer-Beasley finished 2nd in the shot, with a pb of 8.89m. And Jessica Thirlwell was 3rd in the standing long jump with 2.35m. There were also 4th places for Kai Liversedge in the speed bounce and Sophia Horsfall-Samb in the shot.
In the Under 13 Boys short relay, Nathaniel Wade, Murray Barnard, and Gabriel Thompson had great runs to finish 2nd by 0.1 seconds ahead of 3rd. In the Girls 4 x 2 lap, Juliette Callau, Juliette Macquin-Jones, Sophia Horsfall-Samb ran and baton changed brilliantly to hang on to 3rd place in the final.
The Under 15s found the opposition huge and amazing. But compete hard for everything they could. Jesse Watt finished a great 7th (out of 28) in the 4 lap. Elliott Moon was the leading all rounder from North Yorkshire, in 27th of the 56. In the Girls, Florence Hodgkins had a great run to finish 9th in the 4 lap. Zoe Bind had a great set of results to finish 11th out of 56 in the All Rounder event, including 5th in the vertical jump and 7th in the shot.
Many exceeded their individual sprint results to combine to reach Relay Finals. A great competitive effort, and enthusiasm against very strong competition, for all our athletes. And thank you to our parents who officiated.

Road Running
10 runners from the club took part in the National 12 Stage Road Relays that took place in Birmingham on Saturday. Sadly the club couldn’t quite complete the 12 man team needed for the even t due to runners being away in training camps and runners dropping out at the last minute due to illness. Angus McMillan ran the fastest long leg from the club in 26.54 for the undulating 5.38 miles course whilst James Wisbey ran the fastest 3.16m mile short leg for the club in 16.56. Well done to Leeds City on winning the relay in a race that was dominated by clubs from the London area.
Parkrun
14 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. William Hardy came 1st at Wetherby in 20.21 on a grass course that was wet and muddy. India Ibbotson just beat her dad at Rother Valley to come 2nd in 21.32. There were junior age group wins for Brodie Barrow, Josh Reid and James Bastow with Allan Scott and Julie Mastrolonardo getting veteran age group wins. Noah Stipetic was 1st across the line in the York junior parkrun in 8.34 with Brodie Barrow (8.39) and Juliette MacQuinn-Jones being the first two girls.
