Weekly round up – w/e 9th June

Track and Field

Scott Lincoln came 4th in the Shot Putt at the European Athletics Championships that are being held in Rome. Scott’s best throw of 20.88m was just 6 cms short of the bronze medal position. Scott’s 4th place was the best finishing position by a British athlete in this event since Geoff Capes came 3rd in 1974.

Angus McMillan ran a PB of 13.52.72 in the 5000m at Watford. This improved his own club record by 4 seconds.

Ten members of the club went to Leeds for the BMC meeting on Monday with seven of them returning home with PBs. Rob Shipley won the A race on the night in the 800m with a PB of 1.51.17. There were also PBs for Archie Lawson (1.52.38), Cole McAndrew (1.52.93), Edan Petrie (1.56.56), Will Hardy (2.01.25) and Alan Brown (2.11.08) with Megan Ledden (2.13.54) and Ellie Rainbow (2.28.24) being just outside their PBs. Maddie Mastrolonardo ran a PB of 10.08.89 in the 3000m with James Tucker also running 8.42.97 for this distance.

Road Running

Charlotte Grieve sealed the overall league title in the York 10k Road Race League on Tuesday as she comfortably won the 4th race in the series on the Knavesmire last night. Charlotte won by 90 seconds to win her 4th race in a row in the series to take an unbeatable lead in the overall series positions. Karen Wood was another easy winner in the vet 55 age group to take the overall league title for the age group. Chrissie Dover running her first race in the series was 1st vet 45 with 40.47. The women also completed a team for the first time in the series to come 4th.

In the men’s race Michael Lambourne ran a PB of 33.51 to come 7th in the race. Steve Wright, Dave Lancaster and Jon Blake were 3rd, 4th and 6th in the vet 60 age group whilst improving Allan Scott took 30 seconds off his PB with 37.25. The men came 8th in the team race.

Dave Lancaster came 3rd vet 65 in a time of 35.51 in the Yorkshire 5 miles championships that were held in Haworth.

Parkrun

17 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Following on from his PB on the Knavesmire on Tuesday night Allan Scott came 2nd at Heslington in 18.35. There were veteran age group wins for Chrissie Dover, Dave Lancaster and Steve Wright with junior age group wins for Rafael Palmer, Ted Elwell and Jessica Robertson-Dover. In the York Junior parkrun Rafael Palmer came 1st in 7.36, Noah Stipetic was 3rd in 7.50 with Isla Watson being 2nd girl in 8.19.
