Weekly Round up – w/e 14th July

Track and Field

36 athletes from City of York AC attended the English Schools Championships on Friday and Saturday 12th and 13th July at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The standard of entries from North Yorkshire was particularly high this year and City of York AC also had athletes representing West Yorkshire and Humberside.

The stand-out performances in the U15 age group were from Talia Northcott in the junior girls long jump with a last round PB jump of 5.54m to gain a silver medal; and from Carys Francis who recovered from a bad start to gain a bronze medal in the 75m hurdles.

In the U17 age group there were fantastic runs by Zack Cumberland in the 400m hurdles, Rowan Whittaker

in the 400m and Cole McAndrew in the 800m who all gained silver medals and invites to the SIAB international competition between England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland to be held in Carmarthen this weekend.

Congratulations to all that took part and a big thanks to all parents and coaches for their support throughout

the weekend.

Road Racing

William Hardy (16.18), Samuel Dickinson (16.28), James Bastow (17.54) and Bethany Ellerker (24.54) all ran PBs in the latest 5k race on the York University cycle circuit on Friday night which was consolation for missing out on the English Schools Track and Field championships. Michael Lambourne (16.38) and Carys Briggs (22.18) also ran.

Dave Lancaster had another busy week as was 1st over 60 in the Spencer Arms Dash 6k race bear Barnsley on Thursday. Next day he was at it again in the Walkington 10k near Hull as he was 1st over 65 and was only passed by the first over 60 at 9k. He then dragged his tired legs round the Roundhay parkrun on Saturday to make it 3 races in 3 days!

Parkrun

18 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. There were 1st places for Imogen Brown (21.02) at Dalby Forest) and India Ibbotson (22.56 at Easingwold) with 2nd places for Tim Pattison (18.50 at Delamere) and Chrissie Dover (21.09 at Perry Hall in Birmingham). There were veteran age group wins for Steve Wright, Jon Blake, Dave Lancaster and Gary Ibbotson with a junior age group win for Sebatian Brown. Noah Stipetic came 2nd at the York Junior parkrun.
