In the England Championships at Birmingham, Rob Shipley won the 800m in a tight finish. Chelsea Walker won the 400m Hurdles, in a big PB of 57.77. She also finished 6th in the 100m hurdles. Chelsea has now won England Championships at Under 17, Under 20, Under 23, Senior. Frances Hogg finished a fine 3rd in the Under 20 400m Hurdles, setting a pb in the heat. Tommy Shaw finished 7th in the Under 23 1500m, in a tight finish only 1 second behind 2nd place. And his fastest time outside BMC paced races. Archie Lawson finished 7th in the Under 23 800m in his fastest run outside paced races. Ollie Wright was 5th in the Javelin, Lottie Langan 9th in the Under 20 1500m, and Will Reid 10th in the Under 20 Long Jump.

Cross Country Racing

A distance group went to the Golden Acre Park Relay in North Leeds. A pleasant low key evening event, in nice surroundings. But after a summer of track training and racing, a sudden change to a longer distance, very bumpy ground, many twists and short steep hills, and this year Mud. But all took to it happily, and judged their run very well.

The Year 6 Boys team of Noah Stipetic, Jaxon Marshall, Josh Reid finished 10th of the 65 teams in the Under 12s.

Such is the popularity and reputation, 157 teams of 3 took on the senior relay, and it closed weeks in advance. Although it mainly attracts the social / adult distance clubs in Leeds it brought out some very good boys teams. Led off by a great run by William Hardy, about 4th back of the adults, with Miles Watson and Sam Dickinson, the boys finished an excellent 6th, and 3rd Boys team.

The younger boys team of Ted Elwell, Leo Forsdyke, James Bastow were focused on beating the Dads & coach team of Nick Lovett, Dale F, Karl E. But “tiny” Ted tore round the congested field of adults to bring the boys back well ahead of their target after the first stage, with Leo and James bringing them home in 26th of the 157 teams and they must have been the youngest (and certainly smallest) team in it.

The Dads had to refocus on beating the girls team who excelled in adult company, Lucy Davey having a great first stage in the crowd, then Emily Rycroft and Nina Hopkins, as a “very tired” Karl just held off a fast finish by Nina by 2 seconds as the teams finished 42nd and 43rd

The Girls B team of Isla Watson (another great first stage against the adults), Carys Briggs, Bea Thompson ran very consistent times and very well to finish 66th of the 157.

Road Racing

Along with York Triathlon Club, the club organised the 10k handicap race that concludes the York 10k Road Race League. Thanks to Nigel Taylor who was Race Director and all the members of the club who acted as marshalls. Because of the club’s responsibilities hosting the race only four members from the club actually ran the event. Joe Brown was 19th across the line with Charlotte Mason was gain the fastest female runner with 36.31.

Parkrun

18 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Dan Cheeseman (16.04 at Darlington) and Charlie Fielding (17.02 at Beverley) both finished a long way ahead of the rest. Chrissie Dover came 2nd at Hull in 20.13. There were junior age group wins for Katarina Savkovic, Ed Millgate and Bethany Ellerker with veteran ones for Dave Lancaster, Steve Wright and Karen Wood. Josh Reid was 2nd boy at the York Junior Parkrun.
