Weekly Round up – w/e 28th July

Track and Field

A number of our juniors competed in the England Athletics Championships at Birmingham. It is only 2 weeks since they were there for the English Schools, but they were able to raise their standard again and came away with many medals and good placings.

The U17 15 Championship had the UK Under 20 Combined Events in with it. A very hot and hard 2 days. Esme Pounder finished 6th in the heptathlon, only 60 points (in 4500) behind 3rd, including pbs in high jump (1.64)and 800, and second best result ever in hurdles and long jump.

Will Reid finished a fine 3rd in the Decathlon with a pb score, and pbs in the high jump and 400m. Isaac Henson finished 6th in the same decathlon, including pbs in long jump and javelin.

The individual championships saw great wins for Rowan Whittaker in a big pb of 48.25, a UK lead for 2024, and 32nd on the UK All Time list for his age. And he is still in the younger year of his age group. And Zack Cumberland, who won the 400 hurdles convincingly, improved his pb by a second, and a UK lead for this year.

A silver medal for Sophia Horsfall-Samb in the javelin, and bronze for Carys Francis in the hurdles (with club record in the heat and Uk 2nd ranked, and 34th on UK All Time list), Talia Northcott in the long jump with a big pb of 5.62, and Ben Foulger in the Triple Jump with a pb of 14.09. Talia was also 6th in the high jump

Other finalists were Beth Takieddine 7th in the 200 from a big entry. Including a pb, and a pb in the 100 where she reached the semi final and Zoe Bind 8th in the triple jump.

Talia Northcott, Juliette Callau, and Holly Nash all reached the semi final of the hurdles, as did Ryan Mosey in the 400m.

At the other end of the age and competitive level, a group of Under 13s went to the Humber Open at Scunthorpe to gain experience. A new venue, and new meeting organisation set up for them, and they had a successful day. Esme Lee was 1st girl in the 100m and 150m, Willow Goor won the hurdles and was 2nd in the high jump, and Rosie Davies was 3rd in the 1000m. Esme, Rosie, Florence Meek, Liliana Forshaw won the relay, pleased to beat the boys team who were over-confident!

On Wednesday nine of our middle distance runners went to Bury for the BMC meeting with four of them coming home with PBs. Sam Dickinson (4.07.10), Ed Brown (4.07.58) and Katy Wood (4.27.95) ran PBs in the 1500m with Rob Shipley (1.50.62) getting one in the 800m. James Tucker (3.55.68), Tommy Shaw (3.59.28), William Hardy (4.15.88) and Mark Bolland-Cage (4.15.88) also ran the 1500m with Meggan Ledden (2.14.32) doing the 800m.
