Road Racing
The club’s senior men’s road relay team came 26th and the under 17 men’s team 13th in the National Road Relays that were held today at Sutton Park in Birmingham.
Angus McMillan came 3rd the opening 5.848k stage as he broke 17 minutes for the first time on this course as he ran 16.59. Angus’ time was the 9th fastest of the day in a field containing two 2024 Paris Olympians. Tommy Shaw was the 2nd fastest runner from the club as he ran 17.53 for the 2nd stage. The team was completed by James Tucker (18.35), Simon Bolland-Cage (18.55), Adam Bateman (18.43) and Ed Brown (19.51). The team was 3rd Yorkshire and 7th Northern team.
The under 17 men’s team were led off by Isaac Stabler who ran 11.58 for the 3.88k leg to come 9th in the opening stage. Samuel Dickinson took the club into the top ten with 12.28 on the 2nd leg before Cole McAndrew completed the team with 12.45 as the club finished just four seconds outside the top ten. The B team of William Hardy, William Keens and Louis Richardson came 31st.
Cross Country Racing
After the taking part in the National Road Relays on Sunday the club’s distance runners took part in the second leg of a weekend double header as the cross country season opened at Guiseley on Sunday with the opening race in the West Yorkshire League.
Lottie Langan, making her debut in the senior women’s race, came 2nd to 800m Olympian Alex Bell who dominated the race throughout. Niamh McLoughlin was not far behind in 3rd as the club had a convincing win in the team race. Jessica Robertson-Dover (2nd U20), Chrissie Dover (2nd vet 45) and Karen Wood and Julie Mastrolonardo (2nd and 3rd vet 55s) all did well in age group categories. Simon Bolland-Cage’s in 11th place was the leading runner from the club in the senior men’s race who weren’t able to complete a team.
The club dominated both under 17 races with team wins in both. Isaac Stabler followed his fine run at the National Road Relays with another win in the men’s event as he pulled away from Skyrac’s Jacob Palmer in the last 400 metres to take the win. Sophie Roberston-Dover was the leading runner from the club in the women’s race as she came 3rd. Beth Lewis won the under 15 girl’s race as she led the club to a win in the team race. In the other junior races Scarlet Bycroft and Harper Newcombe came 3rd and 4th in the under 11 girl’s race.
The next race in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League is at Wakefield on Sunday 27th October.
Parkrun
14 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend with Tim Pattison coming 1st at Fulwell Quarry at Sunderland in 18.11. There were junior age group wins for Noah Stipetic, Josh Reid, Wilson Moisey-Smith, Sebastian Brown and Bethany Ellerker.
