Cross Country Racing
The third race in the West Yorkshire Cross Country League took place on a new course at Middleton Park in Leeds. The course was hilly but dry underfoot with runners appreciating both the course and the support from the race marshalls from Leeds City.
Katy Wood won the senior women’s race for the 2nd time in a row as she was pushed much closer this time by Leeds City’s Jennifer Walsh. Good support from Niamh McLaughlin in 5th, Charlotte Grieve in 7th and 1st Under 20 Jess Robertson-Dover meant the club had a convincing team win for the third race in a row. Therese Jansson, Chrissie Dover and Julie Mastrolonardo were all 3rd in their veteran age group. Simon Bolland-Cage was the leading runner from the club in the senior men’s race with 8th with Jon Blake being 2nd vet 60.
Sophie Robertson-Dover and Charlie Fielding both came 3rd in the under 17 races as the club came 1st in the women’s team race and were edged out by 1 point in the men’s equivalent. Scarlet Bycroft and Harper Newcombe were 5th and 6th in the under 11 girls race with Luke Holden being 5th in the under 11 boys race.
Angus McMillan ran very well to come 10th overall in the UK Cross Challenge at Cardiff on Saturday. Angus finished behind six Africans and couldn’t match the Olympic 1500m 5th placer, Laros, in a sprint finish. However, Angus was well placed in the domestic field as he was 3rd Britain. Lottie Langan had her best finish in the UK Cross Challenge as she came 21st in the under 20 race.
Tommy Shaw, running for Birmingham University, came 6th in the very high standard Birmingham League Division 1 on Saturday.
