Road Racing
Simon Bolland-Cage became the first runners from the club in the ‘City of York’ era to break 70 minutes for the half marathon in Sunday’s Brass Monkey Half Marathon as he ran 68.41. This was a PB for Simon by 33 seconds. Steve Wright broke his own vet 60 club record as he ran 1.28.44 in the same race.
The Brass Monkey Half Marathon is a popular half marathon that starts and finishes at the Knavesmire that was started in 1985 by sprints coach Brian Hughes. The course is flat and fast through Bishopthorpe and out and back to Appleton Roebuck. The race usually attracts a good field and this year was no exception as Simon placed 12th overall with Steve being 6th vet 60. Jack Ford finished narrowly ahead of Tim Pattison as they ran 1.18.36 and 1.19.10 respectively. Josh Breen returning from injury helped Steve break 90 minutes as he ran 1.28.42. Jon Blake (1.35.47) and John Lewis (1.37.12) were close together as Rachael Bruford ran her best time since having children with 1.48.41.
Cross Country Racing
The North Yorkshire Schools Cross Country, postponed from the previous week, was held on a hilly course at Skipton. But conditions were good with the snow melted without making it wet.
Lottie Langan was a convincing winner in the Senior Girls, with excellent runs for 2nd placings in their races for Aimee Keefe and James Bastow and 3rd places for Daniel Campbell and Isaac Stabler. Other top 8 finishers were Harriet Brown 4th and Sienna Bayston 5th in the Year 7, Hannah Lovett 5th, Rosie Davies 6th, Marianne Lowson 7th in the Junior Girls, Isobel Madden 4th, Lydia Scott 7th, Kate Setchell 8th in the Inter girls, with Louis Richardson 7th in the inter boys. And Sophie Robertson-Dover 4th in the Senior Girls.
Parkrun
13 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Ed Brown had a comfortable win on the Knavesmire as he ran 16.35 with India Ibbotson coming 1st at Easingwold in 22.10. There were veteran age group wins for Jon Blake and Dave Lancaster with Bethany Ellerker getting a junior age group win.
