Weekly Round up – w/e 16th March

Indoor Track and Field

At the North East Indoor Combined Events in Gateshead, the club had nine athletes competing in the indoor pentathlon. There were strong performances from all of the athletes and a really consistent day overall

Our four U15 girls, Juliette Callau, Sophia H-S, Juliette M-J and Imogen Bind placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 8th overall in the competition. Juliette Callau gained pbs in the shot put with a distance of 9.18m and in the 60m a time of 8.15s. Sophia H-S performed brilliantly in the high jump gaining a pb of 1.52m, a 60m pb of 8.44. Juliette M-J had solid performances all round but a great pb in the 60m of 8.44s. Imogen Bind had a great day gaining pbs in the high jump clearing 1.46m, shot put with 6.77m and 60m hurdles running a time of 10.11s.

Jaxon Marshall competed in the U13 boys pentathlon placing 2nd overall. He gained an awesome pb in the shot put throwing 8.84m and had solid performances in each of the events throughout the day. 

Summer Barnard placed 5th overall in the u17 girls pentathlon gaining PBs in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.67 and in shot put throwing 7.41m.

In the u20 women’s pentathlon Esme Pounder placed 2nd overall and Olivia Tweddle placed 5th. Both scored pbs in the 60m with times of 8.32s and 8.45s. Olivia also had a long jump pb of 4.93m and in the shot put with a throw of 8.79m. 

Rebecca Perry placed 2nd in the Senior women’s pentathlon. Becky gained 4 pbs with 10.02m in the shot put, 5.30m in the long jump, 1.49m in the high jump and 9.74s in the 60m hurdles. She also ran the British champs qualifying time in the 60m with a time of 7.61s. Well done to all of our athletes with so many having such solid performances and getting on that podium! A great result for the club as a whole

Road and Cross Country Racing

A busy weekend for the club’s distance runners as 15 of our juniors ran in the prestigious English Schools Cross Country Championships that were held in Sussex. 21 of our runners did 5k road races in either York or Leicester with 11 of them coming home with PBs and Laura Thompson (vet 35) and Gianluca Mastrolonardo (under 20) setting age group course records. Chrissie Dover also took 4 seconds off her own vet 45 club record at parkrun.

Cross Country Racing

Beth Lewis continued her superb cross country season by placing 9th in the Intermediate Girls race in the English Schools Cross Country Championships. She has now been picked for England team in the Schools International in Scotland next Saturday. Aimee Keefe (144th), Isobel Madden (214th) and Lydia Scott (226th) also ran this race. The club had two runners in the intermediate boy’s race with Louis Richardson coming 211th and Ben Walker 261st. In the senior races Lottie Langan came 29th and Sophie Robertson-Dover 119th with Isaac Stabler being 65th in the boy’s equivalent. In the junior races James Bastow came 88th, Oscar Walker 199th and Fergus Baigrie 297th in the boy’s race whilst Hannah Lovett came 153rd, Rosie Davis 170th and Marianne Lowson 233rd in the girl’s race.

Road Racing

Adam Bateman in 3rd place lead home 13 runners from the club in Friday night’s University of York 5k series race in a PB of 15.16. Laura Thompson ran a PB and vet 35 club record as she came 4th in 17.32. James Wisbey (PB of 15.30), Wilson Moisey-Smith (18.48), Lucy Davey 1st female junior in 19.14, Lucy Gaskin (PB of 19.44), Imogen Brown (20.20), Noah Stipetic (20.37), Joh Lewis (20.48), Nick Lovett (21.00), Harriet Brown (PB of 21.05), Carys Briggs (PB of 21.20) and Ava Carter (PB of 23.04) also ran.

Seven runners from the club ran in the Podium 5k at Leicester. Gianluca Mastrolonardo improved his won under 20 5k road race club record by six seconds as he ran 14.31. Tommy Shaw was just in front with a PB of 14.22. James Tucker (14.51), Simon Bolland-Cage (15.27), Mark Bolland-Cage (PB of 15.33), Ed Brown (PB of 15.37), Finnian Hutchinson (15.57) and Martha Calton-Seal (18.19) also ran.

Katy Wood ran 1.13.46 to come 5th in her second half Marathon in Bath. Dave Lancaster ran 43.36 to be 2nd vet 65 in the Wakefield 10k.

Parkrun

Chrissie Dover ran a vet 45 club record to come 1st at Heslington parkrun. Steve Wright, Jon Blake and Allan Scott had age group wins and Lucy Davey and Bethany Ellerker had junior age group wins. Scarlett Bycroft was first over the line in the York Junior Parkrun.
