Weekly Round up – w/e 23rd March

Cross Country, Trail and Road Racing

Beth Lewis was in the intermediate relay on the fourth and final leg at the Schools International in Scotland.  When she set off England had a five second lead over Scotland with Ireland just behind in third. The Scottish runner narrowed the gap to two seconds by the half way mark but Beth put her head down and extended the lead making it a comfortable win in the end for England. Unfortunately, the first and second leg runners for England were deemed to have not touched hands on their changeover so the team got disqualified. It was a great experience for her though.

Three younger juniors ran in the big open race for their age group at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire which attracted entries from all over the country. Harriet Brown was 49th in the Year 7 race. In the Year 6 race Scarlet Bycroft was 34th and Harper Newcombe 46th, out of 180.

Chrissie Dover finished 2nd in her age group (and 94th overall out of 1100 runners) in a time of 1.32.03 in the Forest of Dean Trail Half Marathon, which was the trial race for the England Masters team, and has qualified to represent England in a race later this year.

Simon Bolland-cage ran 1.10.36 in the Wilmslow Half Marathon.

Indoor Track and Field

In the last meeting of the Sheffield series, Esme Lee and Florence Meek finished 1st and 2nd in the 200m, and 1st and 6th in the 150m from an entry of 35. Jaxon Marshall was 6th in the 150m. Agnes Michelon was 5th in the 300m, her first race at the distance.
