Track and Field
YDL UPPER REPORT 27th April 2025 1st Meet at Leeds Beckett.
After a challenging start just travelling to Leeds Beckett today a win was deserved! The Green and Black of the City of York AC dominated on track and field securing large victory in the first Upper YDL of the season. There were PBs a plenty and many well deserved successes in the surprising early season heat! Which unfortunately did result in a few athletes pulling out due to not feeling well.
Thank you to:
E. Pounder for quickly running over to Long Jump between S/P throws to gain valuable team points!
I.Langton (H/J) helped in the 4x300m.
E. Robertson who stepped up and not only had a go a T/J for the first time but stayed for the 4x400m relay.
B. Walker (800m) and L. Heron (1500m) for not only competing in their own events but then ran in both 4x100m and 4x400m to fill the empty places – top team players.
Well done to the phenomenal U20m 4x100m relay team setting a new club record of 42.62!!!! (Was 43.11)
Thank you to I.Bind and F. Hogg helping Dave and Lily Craske for supporting/ helping with registrations and coaching as injured. Thank you everyone for all of the fantastic support!
The sell out first meeting of the York Event Series took place on Easter Monday. Tommy Shaw won the feature Heslington mile race in 4.07.33. Full results can be found on power of 10.
Mark Bolland Cage opened his track season in style with a PB of 9.01.95 in the 3000m at Trafford on Tuesday.
Road Racing
Although Sunday’s nice warm weather might have been welcomed by track and field athletes but they were unlikely to have been enjoyed by runners attempting the London and Manchester marathons. Dan Cheeseman ran his first marathon in London and ran a creditable 2 hours 37 minutes and 27 seconds in London. Josh Breen ran 3 hours 12 minutes with new member Karen Wright running 3 hours 47 minutes in the same race. Unfortunately a bad cold put paid to Laura Thompson’s Manchester Marathon ambitions.
Beth Lewis came 15th in the Mini London Marathon.
In other road running news Julie Mastrolonardo ran 21 minutes and 19 seconds to come 3rd female in the Leeds University 5k on Thursday.
Parkrun
21 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Marianne Lowson came 1st at Heslington in 19.48 with Juliet Horne coming 3rd in 20.53. Wilson Moisey Smith (19.25 at Dalby Forest) and India Ibbotson (22.48 at Selby) both came 2nd. There were veteran age group wins for Dave Lancaster and Mike Raynes with a junior age group win for George Ghosh. Hannah Lovett was first runner across the line in the York Junior Parkrun.
