Off Track Distance Races

The final race in the York10k Road Race League took place on Tuesday on a warm evening at Wistow near Selby with 20 runners from the club taking part.

James Tucker turned the tables on York Postal’s Jordan Howe as the two of them staged another epic battle with James pulled away in the last kilometre to win in a time of 31.45. The club had its best finish in the team event as we came 2nd with Alex Dickinson (7th in 34.43), Adam Bateman (10th in 35.14), Steve Asquith (19th in 36.30), Ed Mezzetti (33rd in 38.11) and Josh Breen (40th in 38.40) making up the team.

In the women’s race Charlotte Mason again came 2nd on the night in 35.54 but by beating Knavesmire’s Helen Cross, Charlotte successfully defended her overall League title. The women’s team again did well to come 3rd and were indebted to Anna Cuthbertson who completed the team in a time of 50.45 despite suffering a nasty fall at 1k. Chrissie Dover (7th in 40.47) and Angharad Pryce (25th in 46.43) also counted in the team.

In the overall League series the women came joint 3rd and the men 4th which reflects the club’s steady improvement in road running in recent years. James Tucker came 2nd overall in the men’s event with Steve Wright 1st vet 60, Dave Lancaster 3rd= Vet 60, Karen Wood 3rd vet 45 also picking up prizes.

The York 10k League has a much broader standard of runner taking part than the cross country and track events that we do and are an excellent introduction to club competition for keen senior distance runners. If you would like to join the club to take part in next year’s League series then please do and try to encourage your friends to do the same because it is great to see a good number of green and black vests taking part.

Dave Lancaster had a busy week. Following on from his season’s best of 41.12 at the Wistow 10k, Dave ran the Helen Windsor 10k near Halifax on Wednesday in a time of 42.46 to win the Vet 65 age group at the Yorkshire Veteran Championships that was held in conjunction with the event. On Friday Dave won the Vet 65 age group at the Walkington 10k in 41.41. Dave then completed his 4th 10k in less than a week as he was 2nd Vet 60 in the Bramham Park 10k in 46.07. Somehow Dave also managed to fit in parkrun on Saturday at Wakefield in 20.44. I don’t think Dave raced on Thursday but I need to check……..

Charlotte Mason won the St Aidan’s 10k near Leeds in a time of 36.45 as she just held off Rotherham’s Zara Knappy.

14 of our members did parkrun on Saturday. Ellie Johnson came 1st at the North Yorkshire Water Park near Scarborough in a time of 21.38. The club had its best turnout at Heslington as Lydia Scott (23.14) and Hannah Lovett (23.15) came 2nd and 3rd with Steve Asquith (17.30) coming 3rd in the men’s category. Bethany Ellerker again did both the 5k event on Saturday and 2k junior event on Sunday and came 3rd in the latter with 9.13.
