Track and Field
On Saturday the YDL lower team won the Northern Play off match, that was held at York, to become the Northern Champions for the under 13/15 age group. The club was in 2nd place for most of the meeting but performed well in the later events to win the meeting. The club will now take part in the National final at Manchester on Saturday 3rd September.
Meeting result: 1st City of York 574.5 points, 2nd Wirral 551 points, 3rd Preston 486.5 points, 4th Harrogate 429 points, 5th Sale 317 points, 6th Hallamshire 252 points
Triathlon
On Sunday Sam Dickinson was part of England’s gold medal winning team for the Triathlon Sprint Relay at the Commonwealth Games. Sam combined with Alex Yee, Sophie Coldwell and Georgia Taylor Brown to take the gold medal. This followed on from the individual triathlon on Friday where Sam came 19th as Sam played an important role in maintaining a good pace on the bike stage for the chasing group to help Alex Yee get as close as possible to the lead group so that Yee could win the gold medal on the final running stage.
Off Track Distance Races
On Tuesday four veteran runners went to Bingley to take part in the 4th race in the Yorkshire Veterans Grand Prix series. Held over an undulating trail course in heavy rain, Steve Asquith was first home from the club in 12th place to be 6th Vet 40. Ed Mezzetti edged Mike Raynes out by one place as Ed was 14th Vet 40 and Mike 8th Vet 45. Dave Lancaster was the 2nd Vet 65.
14 runners from the club did parkrun over the weekend. Lottie Langan came 1st on the Knavesmire in 17.49 which is the 3rd fastest time by a female runner from the club behind Katy Wood and Charlotte Mason. Steve Asquith won again, this time at New Earswick in 18.18 whilst Chrissie Dover was 2nd at Heslington in 21.39.
