Track and Field
There is no track and field news to report as the outdoor season has just ended.
Off Track Distance Races
The Northern Road Relays took place this afternoon at Sports City in Manchester with a course that ran round Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium. The club’s senior teams both ran well as the women came 11th and the men 16th in a competitive event that brings together both middle distance track and road runners.
The club sent out their best two runners on the first two legs in each of the senior races because our best runners wanted to take on the first leg which tends to be the strongest in road and cross country relays. In the women’s event the club was lying 4th after 2 legs thanks to great runs from Katy Wood and Charlotte Mason. The club then dropped back to a still very good 11th place following runs by Lucy Gaskin and Chrissie Dover on the last two legs.
It was a similar story in the men’s race as Angus McMillan and James Tucker combined to put the club 3rd after two legs. The later legs runners of Adam Bateman, Mark Bolland-Cage, Tim Stratton and Tommy Shaw saw the club home in 16th place, which was probably a better run than the identical finish last year as the field was stronger with the event being held in a more central location. Both senior teams were 3rd club from Yorkshire which is a sign of progress in senior off track distance races.
The only junior team to complete a team was the under 15 boys who came 25th thanks to William Keens, Conal Cairns and Miles Watson. In the past we have fielded more junior teams in the road relays but the late finish to the track season due to the club making the YDL National Finals made it harder to complete teams this year.
Under 15 girls, Under 15 Boys B team and Senior Men’s B team were all incomplete due to last minute drop outs.
A group went to the Bramham Park Fun Run, and enjoyed a scenic training run in the Park. While not too competitive, Anna Proctor (2nd), Hannah Lovett (4th), Eliza Loftus, Emily Lawrence, Katie Lawrence (1st Under11) were in the top 10 females in the 5k, which was about 5.27k, and Joseph Cooper was 9th overall in that run.
Steve Asquith came 2nd overall and first Vet 40 in the Yorkshire Veterans Grand Prix series. This involved running six out of the seven trail races that were held throughout the summer over a distance that was approximately 10k. Steve came 4th overall and 2nd Vet 40 in the final race at Ackworth that was held on Sunday. Steve has done a lot of 10k races this year as he also completed the York 10k League which is held early in the summer.
Alison Deane ran a PB of 3.14 in the Berlin Marathon on Sunday.
The club had a smaller than normal turnout at Parkrun with only 8 members doing one. Chrissie Dover came 2nd at Humber Bridge in 22.57 whilst Dave Lancaster came 3rd in Dumfries in 20.38.
