Track and Field

There was no track and field news last week.

Off Track Distance Races

The club had 20 juniors in the PECO Cross Country League at Middleton Park on Sunday, plus a few on the waiting List and siblings.

There were 120 in the secondary race, with William Keens 2nd and Daniel Campbell 8th, and Kaitlin Keens 4th girl. The younger secondary had a hard run against runners 3 or 4 years older, in a big entry. But they judged their pace and effort very well, and some very good results. Emily Rycroft was 6th girl overall, and the leading Under 13. Hannah Lovett was the first Year 7 finisher. James Bastow and Leo Forsdyke moved through the field very well, and finished 2nd and 3rd of the Year 7s. The two leading runners representing the club in the 1 mile Primary Aged race were Josh Reid and Katie Lawrence. Mike Raynes (153rd) and Dave Paver (461st) ran in a large field in the senior race.

The Dovers had a great Sunday morning in the Doncaster 10k. Jessica and Chrissie were together for 8k with Jess then edging away. Chrissie clawed the deficit back but couldn’t match Jess’ younger legs in the sprint finish. They were both rewarded with club records as Jess’ time of 38.49 was a junior record for 10k whist Chrissie’s 38.53 was a veteran club record. Dave Lancaster ran 41.35 to be 2nd vet 65.

On Saturday Angus McMillan finished 24th in the Liverpool Cross Challenge which is probably the strongest domestic cross country field of the year as it acts as a trial for the Great Britain team for the European Cross Country Championships. Tommy Shaw (47th) and Ed Brown (130th) ran in the Junior Race whilst Alex Botterill came 11th in the short distance race of a mile.

The club had 16 runners doing parkrun with Ollie Wright coming 3rd in 17.48 on the Knavesmire with William Hardy in his first parkrun coming 2nd 11-14 year old  in a time of 18.27. Therese Jansson was the fastest female parkrunner from the club with 21.35 again on the Knavesmire.
