Weekly Round up – w/e 8th January

Track and Field

City of York were very well represented at the English Institute of Sport at the weekend with Frances Hogg, Isaac Henson, Will Reid and Harry Maslen all competing.

Frances had a very successful weekend in her first indoor pentathlon as an U20 athlete finishing in 6th place overall from a field of 16 girls. Frances started the day with an excellent PB in the 60m hurdles (9.40 sec) and followed this up with very solid performances in the high jump (1.54m), Shot (9.50m and another PB) and long jump (5.24m). Frances completed her day with an amazing run in the 800m which knocked around 6 seconds off her previous best. Fran ran 2.19.51 for the fastest time of the day by any female in the competition and completed a total pentathlon score of 3447 points. 5 events and 3 personal bests – a fantastic performance!

In the U20 male competition both Isaac Henson and Will Reid represented the club. Isaac is in his first year as an U20 athlete while Will is in year 2. Will finished third overall and gained a brilliant bronze medal. Will’s results: A Personal best in the 60m (7.31 sec), 6.69m in the long jump, 11.45m PB in the Shot, 1.74m in the high jump, a PB in the 60m hurdles (8.51sec), 3.70m in the pole vault and 2:59.14 in the 1000m. 3 Personal Bests in 7 events with the other 4 events very close to Will’s previous bests. A fantastic performance and achievement to finish third in these championships. Isaac finished in 14th place with the following scores: 60m – 8.07sec, 5.46m in the long jump, an excellent 12.27m PB in the shot put, 1.68m in the high jump, 10.36sec in the 60m hurdles, 3.70m in the pole vault, and 3:08.58 in the 100m.

In the senior competition, City of York AC coach Harry Maslen finished in third place for the bronze medal. Harry produced a series of excellent performances which were all very close to his previous best scores. Harry’s scores: 7.22sec for 60m, 7.10m in the long jump, 12.67m PB in the shot put, 1.92m in the high jump, 8.28sec in the 60m hurdles, 4.60m in the pole vault, 2:43.62 in the 1000m.

Overall a brilliant weekend for the athletes and the club.

Off Track Distance Races

The club had a great day in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships that were held on Saturday at a very wet and muddy Lightwater Valley. The club won 8 medals, 4 in team competitions and 4 individually. This is a joint record for the club in these championships that equalled the medal haul from 2014.

Senior Men – Angus McMillan took his first Yorkshire Cross Country title at senior level as he caught and passed Leeds City’s Josh Dickinson on the last lap. A good turnout of 10 seniors saw the club come 7th in the team event.

Senior Women – Therese Jansson was the only senior female for the club in the race as she came 48th.

Under 20 Men – Tommy Shaw continued his improvement by finishing 2nd.

Under 20 Female – Holly Moss dug deep to come 9th.

Under 17 Men – Beau Jamieson-Wannell continued to show good form over the country as he came 7th. The club took the bronze team medal in this age group.

Under 17 Women – Lottie Langan paced the race well to come through in the 2nd half to finish 2nd just 9 seconds behind international Rebecca Flaherty.

Under 15 Boys – Isaac Stabler in 4th place led the team to silver in the team competition.

Under 15 Girls – Good packing from our leading runners ensured that the club took home the bronze medals in the team event.

Under 13 Boys – Ollie Wright came 3rd as the team came 5th.

Under 13 Girls – Aimee Keefe’s 4th, Nina Hopkins 6th, Hannah Lovett 8th and Emily Rycroft in 9th place meant that the club won the team event.

Sophie Robertson-Dover (U15) took the gold medal at the Humberside Cross Country Championships with Chrissie Dover (Senior) and Jess Robertson-Dover (U17) taking silver medals.

The club had 8 runners doing parkrun over the weekend. Jon Blake was the first Vet 60 across the line on the Knavesmire in a time of 22.11.
