Weekly Round up – w/e 5th February

Track and Field

Some members went to the Northern Indoor Under 15 and 13 Championships at Sheffield, a very busy event, and a higher level experience for many. It hasn’t been easy training for these events with no indoor track, and recent bad weather.

There were wins for Ollie Wright in the 800m, and Juliette Callau with a huge PB of 1.40m in the U13 high jump (after only half an hour high jumping since September!). And 3rd place for Sophie Williams in the long jump.

With a big entry in some events, there were good successes for Bobby Speight 4th in long jump, Carys Francis and Sophie Williams reaching the hurdles final, and Carys 6th in the shot. Harriette Williams and Lily Craske made it to the 60m semi final from a particularly big entry.

In the long jump of 24 entries we had 5 in the top 12, with Sophie Williams, Tabitha Speight, Harriette Williams, Talia Northcott, Carys Francis.

Well done to all who entered.

In her first competition since July last year. Lucy Hadaway jumped a new championship record, a new PB and a current UK lead of 6m 66 cms in the Scottish Indoor Championships. This jump also currently puts her 4th in Europe.

Off Track Distance Races

The club had a number of runners for North Yorkshire in the Inter County Schools match at Sunderland. An undulating tricky course, with a good standard at the front with the best athletes from 5 counties.

Daniel Campbell was an excellent 3rd out of 74 finishers in the Junior age group. In the Inters William Keens was 10th and Beau Jamieson-Wannell 14th, and Luca Mastrolonardo 8th in the Seniors. For the Year 7, James Bastow was 19th

In the Junior girls, we had a great club result with Isobel Madden 4th, Kate Setchell 13th, Nina Hopkins 15th, Emily Rycroft 19th, out of 75. Hannah Lovett had a fine run to be 9th in the Year 7 race.

Some who had not run in the County match went to the NYSD at Richmond. A nice course and scenic setting on top of the hill above Richmond. With a very long hill every lap, and an uphill finish. A smaller low-key event, ideal for some who are new to racing or had a lay-off. Miles Watson was 2nd and new athlete William Gale 4th in the Under 15 race. Isla Watson had a good run for 9th in her first club race, and Oli Parker a very good run to get round a very demanding 6k route in his first ever cross country.

In the BUCS cross country championships that were held in Pembrey Country Park in Wales Tommy Shaw came 14th and Holly Moss 113th in the B races.

Mark Bolland Cage took 57 seconds off his PB in the Dewsbury 10k as he ran a very good time of 32.33.

The club had 15 runners doing parkrun over the weekend. Chrissie Dover came 1st at Heslington in 20.05 with Lydia Scott coming 3rd in 21.23. Lydia’s dad, Allan continued to improve with a parkrun PB of 18.38 with Steve Asquith being the fastest male park runner in the club with 18.25.
