Track and Field
The club had a number of athletes in the North Yorkshire teams in the National Sportshall Athletics Final at Stoke.
Many had a very bad journey, delayed 2 hours, some near 3 hours, by a motorway closure when they had got near the venue in good time.
In the Under 15 Boys, Jack Pallister won the standing long jump, was 4th in the shot, and with a good 2 lap sprint run he finished 5th overall (out of 53) in the All Rounder competition. Harry Jobson was worst affected by the travel delay, and had to do his long jump straight after his run. He finished a fine 4th just 1cm behind 2nd place. Caleb Tierney-Coates was also in the North Yorkshire team.
In the Under 15 Girls, Olivia Tweddle, Zoe Bind and Sophie Williams were in the North Yorks team which finished 8th overall. Olivia and Zoe were in the relay team which qualified for the Final and improved on their heat to finish 5th.
In the Under 13 Girls, Carys Francis, Talia Northcott, Beth Takieddine, Lily Craske, Hannah Mapplebeck, Sophia Horsfall-Samb, Evelyn Coulson were in the team which finished 6th, led by a 2nd place for Carys in the shot. Carys, Beth, Lily were in the relay team which reached the Final and finished 4th, and Talia, Hannah, Sophia were in the obstacle relay team which finished 4th.
Despite the awful start to the day which must have affected some performances, all worked really well together with their team from the other clubs in North Yorkshire.
Club coach John Moreland travelled to Torun in Poland to take part in the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships last week. John claimed the bronze medal in the discus with a throw of 48.80m. Well done John, a brilliant achievement!
