Track and Field

City of York Open Meeting April 23rd 2023

Our open meeting on Sunday heralded, for many, the start of the summer track season and the cool breeze could not dampen the enthusiasm of all those who took part.

There were some great performances on the track and field from our youngest athletes through the age groups to our senior athletes and their enjoyment of the day was matched by the many volunteer helpers and officials and organisers who made the day possible. To all those who helped, a huge thank you. You made it a fantastic first meeting of the season.  For many of those helping it was the first time, but we hope it is the start of your journey in support of the club, helping support our athletes who gain so much from their enjoyment of the sport. It can be daunting to volunteer, but we are all there to support both athletes and officials, please do ask us if you are unsure how to get involved.

Rather than pick out individual performances, attached is a link to photos of the day’s action, to show the commitment, determination and enthusiasm of all who took part can be found on the club’s Facebook page. Whether it was a PB or a time or performance  to build on as the season progresses, well done to all who took part. A set of results can be found on the club’s website.

In other track news Ed Brown ran a 10 seconds PB in the 3000m race at the opening BMC meeting at Leeds last Thursday. Gianluca Mastrolonardo (8.41.60) and Mark Bolland Cage (9.08.66) also ran PBs at the same distance with Katy Wood opening her season with 9.36.21.

On Saturday in the Loughborough Open Tommy Shaw (3.57.89) and Gianluca Mastrolonardo (4.03.56) both competed in the 1500m.
