Charlotte Mason won the popular Run for all York 10k in a time of 35.22 as she won the race for a 2nd time having won it previously in 2021. William Keens (34.21) and Will Hardy (36.09) and Kaitlin Keens (44.35) all raced the 10k distance for the first time as they all ran very good times for 15 year olds. Allan Scott (38.49), Matthew Briggs (41.48), Lee Sutterby (43.35), Martin Briggs (46.09) and Andy Courtney (53.15) also ran. In the 2.5k junior race, Emily Rycroft and Hannah Lovett finished close together in 2nd and 3rd overall and were the first two girls,
James Tucker ran 24.49 and Tim Stratton 25.45 in the Bassingham 5 miles road race near Newark.

England Athletics held the U15/U17 Combined Events Championships at Manchester Regional Arena at the weekend.
Esme Pounder took part in the U17 Women’s Heptathlon while Carys Francis and Talia Northcott were in the U15 girl’s Hexathlon. The weather on Saturday was wet and cold and not really suited to an athletics competition in August. However, the athletes battled through.
Esme’s first day of the heptathlon started rather sluggishly with a below par hurdles performance and a pretty average high jump. However, she threw close to her PB in the shot and produced her second fastest time of the year in the 200m to end the first day in 14th position. It was warmer and a bit drier on the Sunday and Esme had a really positive second day jumping over 5m in the long jump, throwing a PB in the javelin and running very close to her best in the 800m. She finished in 9th place out of the 28 Women who started the competition.
Talia and Carys both ran excellent hurdles races to start their competition – Carys equalling her PB and Talia going a tiny bit quicker for a new PB. They then moved onto the long jump where they both jumped very well and close to their bests given the conditions and the temperature. They then completed their first day with the javelin which is not a strong event for either girl and both struggled with a lack of experience in this event. Day 2 started with high jump. Carys was close to her best although this is not typically one of her stronger events while Talia jumped well compared to many of the other girls but will be disappointed she didn’t jump closer to her PB. Both girls performed really well in the shot with Carys throwing close to her best and Talia gaining a new PB. The girls then completed their competition with the 800m where both ran brilliantly to set new PB’s in this event. Talia finished 7th/28 and Carys finished 14th/28. Two fantastic performances.
Both Talia and Carys are in their first year as U15 athletes and therefore have another year ahead of them in this age category – exciting times ahead!
While on holiday in Canada, Louis Richardson ran in the Ontario Provincal Championships (in his City of York vest). This was a big and highly organised event and a great experience. He ran 3.42 for 1200 (equivalent to about 4.38 1500) in 28 degree heat, mid 80s F, to finish 3rd in the C race, and 28th out of 45 altogether. To get a medal it needed a 4m 00 1500m pace, or 4.32 in the equivalent girls race, so a high standard meeting.
15 runners from the club did parkrun on Saturday. Lydia Scott (22.32) and Lucy Gilbertson (22.37) were 2nd and 3rd at Heslington whilst William Keens stretched his legs before Sunday’s York 10k by coming 2nd at Easingwold in 18.52.
