Track and Field
Club records were set over both 1500m and 5000m in last night’s British Milers Club meeting at Trafford.
Alex Botterill finally erased Walter Wilkinson’s 50 year old club record for 1500m from the books as he ran 3.40.57 to beat the old mark by a second. This follows on from Alex’s recent club record over the 800m. Angus McMillan improved his own club 5000m record by 4 seconds as he ran 13.56.61 to break 14 minutes for the first time. Angus had also run 3.44.87 for 1500m earlier in the week. James Tucker also ran a PB of 3.53.95 for 1500m whilst Katy Wood ran 16.41.93 for 5000m.
The club had 35 athletes in the Northern Under 17, 15, 13 Championships at Middlesbrough, and won 17 medals.
Rowan Whittaker won the 300m in a Championship record of 36.38, and other Northern Champions were Lottie Langan 1500m, Ben Foulger Triple Jump, Bryce Farmer-Beasley discus, Ollie Wright 800m, Juliette Callau long jump.
Silver medal winners were Adam Pearson in triple jump, Otto Kearns in Javelin, Bryce Farmer-Beasley in Hammer, Annabel Fulford in high jump, Amy Kennedy in steeplechase.
Bronze medals for Esme Pounder (hurdles), Carys Francis (hurdles), Ryan Mosey (400m), Otto Kearns (hammer), Nathaniel Wade (100m), Sophia Horsfall-Samb (shot).
Many of these needed personal bests to reach these awards, and there were many other pbs and good competitive performances to reach a final.
On Monday five runners from the club ran the BMC meeting at Leeds with Lottie Langan taking 2 seconds from her 800m PB with 2.10.03. Gianluca Mastrolonardo (8.42.43), Adam Bateman (8.52.15) and Cole McAndrew (9.07.02) all ran in the 3000m whilst Samuel Dickinson (2.07.80) took part in the 800m.
