Weekly Round up – w/e 17th September

Track and Field

Some excellent performances in the English Schools Combined Events at Bedford.

Led by 3rd places for Will Reid in the decathlon and Frances Hogg in the heptathlon. Both with many good results under pressure, but as in Combined Events having to overcome and limit the “damage” in the events that don’t go so well. For Frances a sound 2 days finished with strong results in the javelin and 800m to move her up from 6th to 3rd. For Will, fortunes fluctuated but he produced pbs in pole vault, discus, javelin, and the painful 1500m, to win his first English Schools medal in his last event before leaving. Isaac Henson produced a series of pbs, and very good performances to finish 9th in the decathlon. Esme Pounder finished 16th in the Intermediate heptathlon, with pbs in the shot (11.61) and 200, seasons best in high jump, and a good 800 to finish. We also had good determined performances for Kathryn Clague in 24th, Imogen Barrett in 27th including winning her heat of the 800m, and Olivia Tweddle 30th.

The Juniors were headed by Lucy Gilbertson with strong results in high jump (1.53m equalling pb), her 2nd best ever long jump, and winning her heat in 800m with a well judged run, to finish 12th of the 40 competitors. Closely followed by Carys Francis in 14th and Talia Northcott in 15th only 4 points behind. Talia’s result matching the performance of Jessica Ennis who was 15th in this event in this age group. Carys and Talia were 4th and 5th of their own younger year group. Isobel Madden finished 33rd, with a big pb in the hurdles and shot, and a win in her heat in the 800m.

In the Junior Boys, Elliott Moon finished 35th (and 5th of the younger year group) with pbs in hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot. A really good series of performances.

The Under 13s went to the North East pentathlon at Jarrow, where Sophia Horsfall Samb won with a very consistent series of performances, and Juliette Macquin-Jones finished 2nd of the 21 athletes. They are now 3rd and 8th on this years Po10 lists for pentathlon.

A few of the clubs juniors attended the Hull open on Saturday, there were 1st places for Tabby Speight 100m, Kate Setchell 200m, Alfie Ryan 400m, Charlie Fielding 1500m, Bobby Speight Long Jump, Alice Gilday 75m hurdles and Long Jump.

Daniel Onyett took part in the Cerebal Palsy Sports National Athletics Championships today. He did a PB in 200m (29.49) and an outdoor PB for shot (7.62m) and took home gold medals for T38 100m and 200m.
